3D printing tips/facts

in #technology6 years ago (edited)

Invented just about four decades ago, 3d printing is a relatively new technology. However, there are many tips/facts to assist or inform you about 3d printing. I wrote about the purchase of my first 3D printer here on Steemit some months ago. Since then I have made several prints, and will share some of the tips from my personal experience:

Tip 1: 3d printing is a learning experience such as many other things. Expect to make a few mistakes along the way to making great 3D prints.

Tip 2: Before purchasing or using a 3d printer learn as much as you can for better prints and fewer chances of making those mistakes.

Tip 3: When printing high detail objects use the settings for higher quality for better prints. Although you may want a print to go quick and put it on faster settings, it will most likely end up messing up and you will waste time and material.

Tip 4: If you are planning to get a 3d printer, a good one should have a price range from between$250-$6000. Research and careful selection is the key here more than simply the price. For instance, I have a $400 3d printer and it works very well and the ratings are better than some $6000 ones. A good 3d printer should have its own software that comes with it, and be self leveling. The software is helpful for slicing and using a different software will likely be a lot of work, and could introduce compatibility problems. The self-leveling is indeed the most helpful thing ever. Without it you may not level it perfectly and all your prints will go horribly wrong.Finder00.jpg

Tip 5: Even if you can feel lines on your print after it is done, you can always sand it and add acetone which dramatically increases the smoothness of it. It may be more work but it has its advantages.

Tip 6: Creating and modifying 3d objects are a great way to make your imagination come to life, and a great way to discover new technology.

Tip 7: By making or printing many parts you can make movable toys or objects. 3d printing can also assist you with broken or missing parts of things you use around the house, shed, garden, or work, such as covers, caps, etc.

3d printing is leading us to technological advancements. 3d printing is also a great experience and the products are amazing to have. Although you may not be able to afford the most expensive printers as newer ones will come out, the old(good) models will continue to become cheaper, and allow you a good entry point. I hope you enjoyed reading my 3d printing tips/facts. I have a video of some of my 3D printing activities and objects here on my youtube channel.

This article was written by my 11 year old son. He is an avid consumer and investigator of new technology and obtained his first 3D printer about nine months ago. Since this blog is about all things technology and I couldn't yet have him create his own blog, I offered to have him write in mine. I hope those who are into 3D printing or looking to get their first 3D printer would find this helpful and informative.
