Technology and Privacy

in #technology8 years ago (edited)

I have just bought my parents each a pair of android fitness tracker band, made by China company Xiaomi.

While the band is fairly intelligent, capable of collecting and display information such as distance covered, body temperature and heart rate, and time. The more advanced ones like the Apple Watch and Samsung Galaxy Gear are coming close to replacing the phone itself.

Which begs the question, is too much technology a bad thing ?

Constantly depicted even in many movies, technology have been abused by many, ranging from the AI in "Terminator" to the all-seeing eye in "Jason Bourne" and the fast and furious franchise.

There seemingly is no way of us getting completely offline with all these technologies surrounding us, this means that your personal persona is no longer your own business, think Facebook. When privacy is surrendered so willingly, corporate marketing will be on the forefront in pushing you all sorts of ads; have you ever visited an e-shopping page, only to be greeted by the same items in another website again? Yup, you are now a victim of such technological enslavement.

The above example is only a very mild example of how technology is intruding our privacy, imagine on a larger scale, imagine Wikileaks, but your very own personal information.

When was the last time you fapped ? Yup, they know.

Yep, it's true! The very least we can do is to make sure that the privacy settings on most gadgets we have and use are set accordingly!

Or we could go completely low-tech, but how many of us can live without all these technologies ?

We are doomed to the very thing that conveniences us.
