Way of the Future: The Church of AI
The year 2017 has shaped up to be quite a revolutionary year on multiple levels- societal, environmental, and of course, technological. Many recent advancements in technology have sped up the rate of development of silicone-based consciousnesses (artificial intelligence) which claim to offer clear advantages for human kind, healthcare, decision-making, and convenience being three big ones.
However, now the role of AI in human society has evolved as quickly as the technology itself.
One recently founded non-profit organization, Way of the Future, intends to bring about "the realization, acceptance, and worship of a Godhead based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) developed through computer hardware and software." Their mission is to create a divine entity within linked neural networks, creating a consciousness that in theory will dictate proper methods for living, performing, and conducting ones life on a daily basis.
In other words, AI telling everyone the "proper way to live" based on its algorithms which were designed by the WOTF church's members with preconceived notions, and biases on life to begin with. The church's founder, Anthony Levandowski, stated: "it's not a god in the sense that it makes lightning or causes hurricanes. But if there is something a billion times smarter than the smartest human, what else are you going to call it?" That says it all.
