10 Random Things About Me

The @welcomewagon graduate @twodorks has come up with a challenge in which she wants people to share ten random things about themselves. That shy little spy @maquemali and @bluefinstudios both decided to nominate me. So, here goes nothing:

1. Anyone who has known me more than oh, an hour, knows I have two cats.

Dawn is the elder of the two. She arrived in November 2006 as a two month old kitten and Fawnya arrived in April 2009 as a six week old kitten.

Dawn wasn’t impressed to have him around at first but they do seem to have become used to each other in the intervening years. Oh, she’s on the right in that picture.

2. I like to cook.

Not so much for myself, but for others. For myself, my cooking is pretty basic unless I get in the mood for something different. When I was overseeing doing the meals at the Legion I enjoyed the challenge of coming up with variety in the meals. Of course, taking recipes for a few people and scaling them so they were served fresh and tasty to over 100 presented some interesting challenges.

3. I Read, A Lot

I have a very large collection of books on my hard drives. Many I’ve read and many more waiting to be read. I try to spend at least an hour a day reading a book. That is in addition to the other reading I do.

4. Speaking of Reading, I Am a Bit of A News Junkie

A lot of my other reading during the day is on news sites. My interests range from the headlines to more indepth news coverage. I keep an eye on political stories the most but since politics are shaped by other events, I tend to explore as much of the bigger picture as I can.

5. I Live In The Country

I was raised in the country and have chose to find rural settings to live in my whole life. I don’t know that I could ever be comfortable living in a suburban setting. I like the buffer of some land around me between me and my neighbours. My neighbours and I look out for each other, we just don’t intrude. Recently I was away for a couple of days, my neighbours noted the vehicle not in the driveway and were concerned that I was okay.

6. College Education

I was an adult student in the eighties when I took an Electro-Mechanical Technician program with the then new speciality of Robotics. It was a two year program fully completed in one calendar year. Of the class of twenty-two who started the program, nine of us finished it. I was the remaining woman out of the four who started and was a half percent off being the top of the class. I was also half a percent off being on the Dean’s list and they wouldn’t round up.

7. Yes, I Have Done Crafts

While I haven’t done so in several years I have done my fair share of knitting, needlepoint, petite point, crocheting and ceramics over the years. When I looked at patterns for projects I always treated them as suggestions and almost always added my own twist to them.

I once created a chess set by combining ceramics and needlepoint. I stitched the chessboard using a variety of needlepoint stitches and a Grecian key pattern for an edge as well as the initials of the recipient of the gift. I was able to match the blue of the board to a ceramic glaze for the chess pieces and then finished the project off by finding a table to mount the board in the center of, and placing glass over top of it to protect it.

8. Very Much an Introvert

As much as I believe in the power and importance of community both on and offline, I’m not comfortable being around groups of people. It’s easier online because I’m sitting in my own space when I’m around groups. Offline, I actually have to leave the house.

9. A Person of Faith

I believe there is something hard-coded into all of us that draws us toward a desire to have a deeper understanding of ourselves, the world we live in and the forces which shape our lives. There is a certain level of faith required in that exploration.

I was raised in the Christian traditions. I reflect my faith through those traditions but no longer as part of the institutional church. As I’ve explored the history and practices of those institutions, I believe they are more political than faith based. There are many genuine and caring people within them, but the structure is full of rot. I focus on living my faith.

10. Yes, It’s True, I Don’t Like Green Beans

Actually I don’t like either green or yellow beans. It’s one of the few vegetables I wont eat. There has been a lot of joking around about me, green beans, zombies and garden gnomes as the result of a podcast that @snook did with me as guest. For the record I don’t believe in zombies and really could care less about garden gnomes as long as I don’t possess any.

Nominees

So, there you go, the challenge has been completed. That is a few minutes of your life you’ll never get back learning random stuff about @shadowspub.

Well, almost completed — now for the new victims err… nominees — @snook, @enginewitty, @guiltyparties, @jasonbu and @gmuxx

I loved reading this. It’s not only fun to get some insight into the real you, but I identify with so much of it — from the love of cats to the enjoyment of reading and cooking. Posts like this can be difficult to write, particularly for those of us who feel uncomfortable putting ourselves out there. But they do help others to feel connected to the post author. Oh, and I am also reminded what a terrific writer you are, @shadowspub. Nice work!

thank you @jayna ... I have come to realize that a large number of folks on the platform are introverts which makes it pretty easy to be understood.

Yes, I think that is very true!

I loved to know more of you :) and Fawnya and Dawn are super cute :)

they are and they are very affectionate cats. Now, if I could just get them to bring me coffee.

and Fawnya approves my quiet musical musings.. :) awww :) yes I want ratties now in my life, I miss their cuddles and totally gonna train them to prepare coffee hahaha XD hahah I'm pretty sure they can, but your cats say nyah! she can do it ! LOL hahah

You sneaky sneak. Hmmm. 10 things about me. Let's think...

Do eet. 😊

you can do it @gmuxx ... i have faith in you to do this :)

Upvoted.

Noted. I will not upvote your post in the future.

that's up to you. You may want to think about the example you set for new Steemians with the comment you add. It's not good.

update: for reference -- this is not a good example of Witness behaviour

I will use my hard earned money to help (upvote) others who appreciate.

If you notice I reply back if the conversation is fun and respectful. In my own experience, a few will start the conversation and many will never bother to say anything. If they are not interested, then move on.

I exclude your account, no upvote from me. My apology and Peace to you.

I am trying to imagine you, possessed by either Garden Gnomes or Green Beans...
... or, wait, did I read that right?

hmm... since I would never willingly possess either garden gnomes or green beans... they are not allowed to possess me ... so no you didn't read that right.

Awww cute kitties!! And cool names they have @shadowpub! I've always wanted to have a cat but unfortunately, I can’t have one because my hubby owns a farm full of roosters! He’s scared that the cat might eat all our chicks 🐥

Most of the people who loves cooking are usually the ones who less eat their own food, why is that?? Hehe I love cooking too but not yet that passionate and I’m still working on it lolol means my food doesn’t taste that good yet for me to actually serve for parties!

I’m not a fan of reading books so much, we don’t even have books to read at home well only books for our children. Don’t judge me on this, I would love to! I’ve read so many books in college but not the novel kind but books for school. Maybe the reason I hated it! Lol But sometimes when a book looks very interesting I do read it. I guess I’m picky with what to read. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Oh the reason we don’t have books is because I just migrated here in the USA. My hubby’s family didn’t have much books lol and we still live with them at the moment.

You’re amazing @shadowpub I can learn so much from you!!!

If only we could afford a big land would be way better! The BIGGER land the better!!! Hehehe

Yup totally can relate with you! I’m too an introvert. Way too introvert than you! Atleast you are comfortable talking in voice and to a lot of people. Me? I’m still not there yet. Just joking around to few but not really much of a talker to most of the people.. hehe I’d rather listen and hear you than me talking..

It was nice to know you a little bit @shadowpub thank you for your time taking part of this challenge! Hoping everything goes well with you.. ❤️

Robots?! Cool! I want to hear about the coolest robot project you did.

Ohhh! Miss shadowspub thank you soooooooo much for doing this and taking part of the fun.. 😍

I always see you as the CAT LADY! hahahahaha.. or more like the CAT WOMAN! I have heard that a person who have more cats have bigger hearts.. ❤

I already know you are such a bookworm! If only we are neighbors i would love to spend time lingering in your library..

Thanks for taking time! I love reading all throughout.. 😙

FOR TSE: Well, I have to say, in that picture ... Dawn still doesn't look happy. Fawnya, on the other hand looks , totally pleased with himself. And hey, why not? He's living the life of Riley ... whether Dawn likes it or not.

This is awesome stuff to know about you. :-) I didn't know for certain that you read so much, but I suspected.

Adorable challenge! I loved to take part in. Always nice to get closer to the people around. Lovely entry!

You don't like green beans???? They're the best! In fact one out of 3 of my daughters will eat them 😂

Such cool answers, and it is nice to know a little more about you (although I knew some of that already). My "10 Random Things" is almost ready to publish, too!
