Another one of our members goes to the great "On Out"

in #thailand3 years ago

When a member of the Hash House Harriers passes away we call it the great "On Out" and this is because of the continuation of basically anything in Hashing is referred to as the "On On" and the events after the events are called the "on on on's"

What can I say, we are a silly bunch.

Unfortunately, just like everyone else on the planet our members do eventually get sick and die. "Woolly" passed away from lung cancer just a day ago and it came a massive surprise to all of us because none of us even knew she was sick. She still attended events and while she didn't run them, she did participate and this is not the actions of someone that is dying from a respiratory illness.

It is tragic but we try to not let it get us down but rather, to celebrate the good times that we had with her while she was with us. She wasn't a noisy Hasher (which is rare) and she mostly participated in the Bunny Hash but she was still a regular participant and will be dearly missed.

Her Thai nickname was "Daeng" or "Dang" but to us she as "Woolly." In the Hash we generally do not use one another's real names and despite having known most of the guys and girls in the Hash here and in other countries for years, I only know the real name of a handful of them and this was just by accident. It is considered bad form to ask a Hasher's real name once they have been named by the Hash.

So Woolly has gone to the great On Out and she will be missed by many. We will not shed a tear for her at the events though, because that is not how we operate. Instead we will have a beer for her and carry on in her honor. That is the way that she and every other Hasher would prefer it be anyway.

Terrible and she looks so young for that to happen. I agree rather remember the good times and move forward. Use the sportstalk tag please so I can give you some tokens plus you help the sports tribe as your posts are always decent.

Ok, i'll keep that in mind for the future. She wasn't really as young as she looks in the picture. But she was still a bit too young to go to the great on out. She was in her mid 60's but cancer gets people at all ages, right?

I'm relatively sure that I met her when I was there. I can't say for certain though. This is tragic as can be. Too young. On out!
