Small breaks here and there feel good

in #thoughts13 days ago

I think it's no news to people who may read my posts that I've been pretty much all in hive in forever, this does come with some consequences from time to time.

For instance, my life kind of pretty much revolves around it. Gotta travel somewhere? Better make sure that happens when there's not much happening with any of my projects and where I'm not "needed" as much, so plan it around that. Waking up? First thing you do is check your notifications and alerts to catch up on what you may have missed while sleeping.

Gotta admit though that the way things went this year with zing it was one of the most demanding projects I've experienced and I'll be happy to share that workload in the near future, hopefully it'll be someone from here who's just as enthusiastic about it and hopefully already knows a lot about the project who'll wanna take over and can do the work better than I have.

At first I thought it'd be quite easy, it started off easy, the price of Hive was also looking quite well at $1 or so, but of course, nothing good comes easy in this life. Similar to other times where I thought, oh well, it dropped by x%, there's no way it can drop further, right? It somehow always finds a way to do so and I find myself not being able to predict the unpredictable, if that sentence even makes any sense.

Over time there were also a lot of obstacles where I found myself powerless to do anything about it, I just had to wait around for things to get done so I could continue telling people what to do next. This is something that kind of happened a lot, either cause we don't have more people working on parts of the game or cause funding was low to allow us to hire more people. I assume other projects in this space usually acquire funding to make sure they have a 1-2year+ runway and can hire as many team members as they'd need to keep the timeline's in check. That funding usually comes at a cost later on, however, that many people here may not realize or care about. Those investors always look to lock down profits and they will most likely have a big sway on price action later once the token/project is released and able to be exchanged in more places. Imagine if we had sold x million or x% of the total supply to a group of investors for a certain price and only another part of it had gone to regular users crowdfunding it, some times they don't even allow regular people to aid in crowdfunding, they can only buy in much later at a much higher price than those early investors did. Regular users are part of their exit liquidity for that certain profit.

Things are quite different here with zing, though, you can check who got how much and for what, the chain keeps a nice record for everything. For instance it's kind cool that with zing there's someone unrelated to the project who has earned more zing than the people directly involved with its development. This user has been delegating since day one quite consistently and probably forfeited something around 25k hive by now in terms of his delegation to the project and held most of it. There's no user that I can see that owns more than 15% of the total token supply which is quite cool as well, reminds me a little of Hive. Similar to Hive everyone has also had a chance to participate freely, without censorship or pick and choosing from the team or founder, even if some people I personally don't like were to participate I wouldn't be able to stop them. It's this whole free-market kind of thing from the very beginning til now and in the future.

The cost has also not been "great" to get involved, in other places you'd have to get rid of a large sum of money and then be tense about if you'll ever get to see it back without knowing what the team are doing or what the founders are doing. Here you can easily see for instance that I personally haven't sold any zing that I've earned myself and that I've constantly been around to answer questions or clear things up and keep talking about my plans and current workload with the project.

For instance, recently we updated our XP bar for creatures, implemented how much XP creatures earn in a battle and to include it in the combat log. From the 3d team, we received our first creature with the new team, they're currently working on animations and the cool thing is that since they're a team they work on more things at once which we didn't have the luxury of before. They've now also started working on the first Holozing 3d healer model which is very excited, especially since after that the only thing we'll need to generate will be the environment and we will have at least 1 healer, environment and creatures to showcase the game to people without feeling that we're diminishing first impressions with borrowed temporary assets that don't fit in!

Anyway, this weekend I've been chilling a bit more, usually during times where I had nothing to do and just had to wait around I kept working on future things for when there'll be time to get to them. Things like professions, in-game materials for those professions, different things like creature passive talents and healer talents that won't be implemented in alpha but definitely later as we roll things out one at a time while already having a working product going.

A bit ambitious here but I've even started working on a different game where I'd want the holozing assets to be used in and believe they'll work quite well but with different level progressions, achievements and of course zing earnings.

Being able to plan all these things that we'll get to "eventually" has helped pass the time and not stress about what isn't being done right now that needs to be done or when the project was looking very thin in terms of funding and we had to focus most of it on the crucial parts of development, it helped to not think about all that and just keep moving forward in terms of how I envision it all and what we'll hopefully get to implement later on. I may have planned out the next year if our team stays this size, or just the next few months if we can manage to grow the team after most 3d work which will take a lot of funding from here on out gets finished.

What I'm the most excited about, however, is the future where not only we have excessive funding, but are also generating revenue through other streams, non-web3 streams for instance. Who knows, maybe at some point we may see ourselves doing so well we may have to close or drastically reduce the token issuance we give out to delegators if we feel we'll be okay in terms of paying the team in the near future with revenue we may be getting from other places. It'll leave a lot of room to use it in creative ways to value the community, players and holders and marketing-wise without having to think what we owe some big entity that made the game possible who invested early and owns a big share of the ecosystem.

Anyway, this weekend I chilled out a little bit more than usual, watched some football (lol man city, rekt), started cleaning the house a little bit, have some plans for moving my PC to a different location which may be better for my physical health and played around with Miu a little who's started copying me and getting a bit fatter too lately. :D

The price action of Hive has also caused for some anxiety to drop I feel like, I'm hoping it'll continue/not go back down at least as it'll make a lot of things we have planned possible which of course many of you delegating and supporting the project also have made possible. I hope 2025 will be a great year for zing and that we can start pushing updates and new features out at a much faster pace and them having more impact than "just artwork and random soulbound achievements" as most of the releases this year has been so far. :P

Anyway, thanks for reading. How's your weekend been?

Sort:

We all need to chill more often to recharge!
This project is massive, I admire your passion and dedication, @acidyo.
My weekend? No staff today, awfully hot, and one bnb room changeover, so I'm full of aches and pains tonight!
But, happy that we're full again.

Thanks for being part of helping fund the project! We hope you'll get the chance to test it out soon!

Aws, yeah ever since I moved to asia I know how it feels when it's too hot, not a fan! Need more fans. :P

Haha, fascinating how one word can have multiple meanings😉
Only a pleasure, I must review my delegations, every little bit helps, right!

I've been keeping busy this weekend, doing some work for clients. Yesterday I was making some music and today I was working on a food video for another client.

weekend grind: video production for a seasonal charcuterie board

kicking back and relaxing a bit more than usual is OK too. It helps reset the mind. I hope you enjoyed it.

haha nice set! Think @hiddenblade has a bit of a similar thing going on!

Thanks for writing, my weekend has been going quite well.

I have been studying for school and also have been playing Splinterlands, Immortal creed and Rada quest and from the non crypto games been playing Counter-Strike 2.

I just even managed to snatch a top 3 finish in an Alpha & Beta tournament.

It's important to chill out every now and then to avoid burning out. I had a period last year where I was writing posts and playing Splinterlands so much that I burned out completely, now I'm still recovering and trying to get back on my grind train, but it's tough.
I went almost 4 years in a row, pretty much Eat, Sleep, Blog, Splinterlands, Repeat.
I'm now taking things slower and not dedicating so much of my days to Hive and I feel much better mentally.

But at the end of the day I love Hive and Splinterlands (and hopefully soon Holozing with the same passion) and I don't plan on leaving anytime in the near future :)

Keep doing what you do, you're killing it!

Does spl only reward their curators in the form of votes on their posts? I feel like more curation projects should just do curation reports, they're more transparent in a way so u can see who voted what/whom and don't force people to post to get some rewards for their work.

My weekend has been fairly relaxing, though first our daughter then wife came down with a cold. I might be next, but holding out so far 😀

heh reminds me last time my fiancé got sick I caught it right after and it lasted much longer for me xD

Just saw this post now but yeah taking breaks is something everyone should do no matter how much they have going on, that way you can think over stuff and get new perspectives! Also moving the PC is def a good idea I am sitting on my bed at the computer so not that good lol.

One has to take breaks especially from Hive or their posts get lame, even if it's a full-time job. It can also be bad for one's mental health to sit in front of a screen for so long especially if their day job involves working in front of screens. Spending time outside, with your family or with hobbies that use a different part of your brain and body than your day job is part of a healthyl lifestlye.

Once I took a break from Hive, during that really dull 2020-2021 period of life. Zero regrets and I was able to change the direction of the blog. Posting too frequently hurts ones rewards as most people like to upvote different authors or have autovoting set so it only upvotes someone every so often like 2x per week.

Good for you to be making a positive change in your life. Keep it up and remember to limit your screen time, even if it's crunch time, your brain and your productivity will thank you and so will your eyes.

Man, I don't know how you even get some rest haha. You did a lot of work but it's nice to hear that you get the break you deserve. Hope you feel refreshed!

My weekend has been pretty busy lately, with my sister wedding, the upcoming event, it's mostly packed with meeting and checking out vendors, Thank you so much for supporting us 😊. I'd be a lot freeer once this wedding is out the picture 😂

I remember when HIVE jumped up to $3 and people were saying we would never see it below $1 again. How I wish that had been true! I almost bought some more vials this weekend with the HIVE price pump, but I used some restraint and decided to hold off.

Yeah, slow and steady wins the race! I'm kinda buying as we're spending it atm, lol, guess it helps being in a position where you know the expenses so you buy a little extra to make sure the ends meet. Got quite some spends coming in here in the near future, the 3d team is currently working on 1 creature and 1 healer - the latter we don't have yet and are quite expensive as there's so many details involved. Will be fun to get that included in the alpha, though!

After that hopefully we can focus the spends on other stuff!

Hive looking okay compared to other coins, could be a lot better of course but I'm sure it can only improve from here on out!

That all sounds very exciting! I know what you mean about it being a marathon not a sprint!

When you say your life revolves around hive does that mean that you have retired from real life job this early? If that's true then you are something else man 🔥🔥🔥. I always wondered how you managed to focus on both holozing and real life job.

My weekend has been sluggish. I feel so sleepy because of the weather lately so I can't seem to focus on anything other than sleeping haha.

I kinda retired from my job in 2017 already, but still somehow finding myself in volatile times now and then. 😅

Wow that's most peoples wet dream haha. I read in one of your blogs that you will probably look for someone who will take your spot after a while. What are you going to do to pass time after that expect playing holozing? Isn't it boring sometimes? I would know because hive has been my bread and butter for 2 years now. I'm at home so sometimes it's gets really boring you know so I'm thinking about getting a job soon xD.

My friend's brother also had the same issue and he is now working at an office with half the salary than what he was making while he was working from home. Terrible for health as well since you'll probably be sitting at home doing less movements.

I plan on doing some traveling and getting more active socially here mainly, post and comment more and that fun stuff I kinda miss even though I try to fit in every now and then.

I'd also like to pick up some other things I've kinda neglected the past few years when there's been a lot to do on here. Running quite a few projects hasn't been easy.

I hope you have rested, in my country they say "Achantate un poco", haha, and like you I hope that everything goes well for you and that this 2025 is full of successes, I am preparing for Holozing and when I am well prepared I will be able to apply for the position that you want to give to a new manager, which will be me but in a while... haha greetings, take care and sleep a lot

I'm sure we'll have a lot of unique and different positions available for part-time things in the future!

Great, I'll be on the lookout...

Sounds great man and i really dig your passion and work ethic. I never got into Splinterlands or this latest game. Just not my thing I'm afraid, but who knows, maybe my sons will get into it as they get older.

You mention people delegating. What's the story there? Say if I delegated half of my Hive for example , approx 6K Hive what would I get back potentially without playing the game? Thanks

You can already earn some zing from the delegation, it's basically rewarding people to help crowdfund it at the current phase, later on there'll be ways to earn it by playing too. Currently people delegating, buying and holding alpha vials (starter packs), staking and provididing liquiditity are earning zing through hourly claims that can be claimed, but they accumulate for a long time to give people to choice to claim whenever.

Weekends are always great for me, hehe. More time to spend with family and loved ones, also to get some exercise, and more time to enjoy my meals. :)

That is the main thing, friend, to have good planning and dedicate just enough time to each activity so as not to end up getting too tired and to have enough energy to complete all the activities.

Anyway, thanks for reading. How's your weekend been?

Not bad. Friday my favorite basketball team won against current champions of Euroleague. Yesterday my mother cooked duck fillet and it was great. If only damn plumbers would come sooner that would be great because we are without water for a long time.

In the end of the day a normal work is the same, wake up, mark with badge, check mails, don't go on holiday cause projects... At least you like what you do

Quiet weekend here with family and son

Ugh, I worked as a slave physically. All my bones ache. I must have overdone it...

That doesn't sound too great either :(

No. I'll have bone and muscle pain for at least three days. It's terrible because I can barely lift a can of beer ...

As long as you enjoy what you're doing it's time well spent. Nonetheless, a break is still needed to recharge and come back more motivated.

Achieving the perfect balance between work and rest to recover energy is what we should try to find and more so, in your case, where are you the leader of several projects on which to focus

Life always have a way to disappoint, the main aim is to just stay focus and I love you've been doing that for so long

I'm new to this project, it's going slowly, I haven't fully understood how this project works yet, I write posts, like, comment but I can't seem to get any money for votes so I can share with friends, I hope that will happen soon, until then I'm learning slowly but surely and I'm not giving up, I wish you a happy day too
