Aren´t you going to wish me a happy birthday? Today, two years ago, I opened my account on Steem
In fact you know what, forget about it
I like celebrating victories no matter how small they are, I enjoy recognizing my accomplishments and it´s important for me to cheer when I achieve my goals. And yeah, in the end, being born is not any of this, it´s just a random date where we just happened to start existing (please let´s not get into the "when does life start" argument and lead this into a pro-against abortion) and it just happens to be our birthday date.
Don´t get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with celebrating your birthday and liking to be the center of attention on that day, in fact, 99.99% of people like to make a big deal about the importance of making this day special. In fact, I find it interesting and entertaining to attend birthday celebrations.
I guess that, by now you already realized this post is not about my Steemversary but about the social event we call birthdays.
Yeah yeah, you already know that sometimes I clickbait you guys so I get some attention and interaction on my posts, so I thought that a Steemversary post sounds more appealing to Eric´s opinion about birthday celebrations.
I don´t like celebrating birthdays, but that doesn´t mean that I can´t appreciate the pros of keeping score of certain dates in our life. This morning I woke up to a @steemitboard Gina notification that read Congratulations on your 2 year anniversary. I realized it was the perfect timing to write about this topic without making it feel forced into my blog´s timeline.
It´s been two years now, and I can´t help but to take a trip down memory lane and analyze how my Steem journey has been, what have I accomplished, where have I failed, what I could´ve done better, which decisions were correct and which brought only regret into my Steem life.
I am satisfied. Could it have been better? Probably. Do I wish it was? Maybe not. Would I do anything different? Hell no.
You see, just like in real life, birthdays - or anniversaries as I like to call them - are a good moment to reflect on where we´ve been, where we are and where we want to be. To compare our present to how we pictured it one year ago, to keep track of how good (or bad) we are doing nowadays.
Are you where you want to be? Are you still working towards achieving your dreams? Are you on the right path?
I usually go deeper into these topics on my posts, but this one is different. I´m not planning to share about myself this time or to close with a witty line or a deep quote. This time, I´ll just end with a question that you may or may not like.
Should birthdays be all about celebrating, or about relecting about the past, the present and the future?Should we consider them a reason to party or meet our loved ones, or should we think of them as an opportunity to keep track on how close we are to being the best version of ourselves we can be, that one we idealized when we were 7 years old, that person we dreamt of being when we were 16 years old, that human being we want to remember when we turn 89 years old and we look back, and take a trip down memory lane, as we did every single year before.
Happy Birthday! In my opinion the accomplishment is not so much being born (the credit for that should go to mom), but saying alive. Considering all the things out in this world that could have caused an early demise, each year we accumulate to look back on is worth a little celebration... or at least a moment of consideration, just like looking at an impressive Steem Board. :-)
So I wish you a lots of joy and awesome success on your next journey around the sun!
I believe that although being born is not an achievement properly it is valid to celebrate only by being grateful to be alive. Anyway, any approach that people have regarding birthdays is acceptable and valid for me as long as it is positive take.
Happy steemiversary 😄
Birthdays are totally worth celebrating. Even if you don’t think being born is any special achievement being in good health to see the next one is, and your friends and family are probably totally glad that you exist and celebrate accordingly 😜

Happiest 2 Steemday to you sir @anomadsoul! 🌷
I guess most people do take that little trip down the memory lane. Probably wondering what good and bad moments you have had the previous years.
And in this community, I believe you have done the extra mile in being one of the great steemians I know here. Its only been 2 years and yet you have accomplished a lot. You have inspired a few of us (including me). Well done sir!
So cheers! Hoping for more exciting steem adventure for you in the coming years..

Happy Birthday @Anomadsoul. Your 2 years on STeem has added value to lives and the blockchain in general and its worth celebrating. Very notable is your @Steemonboarding project which has a great prospect.
Congratulations man!
"Born to Win" I totally agree with the points that Birthday are mere a calender day ...but the real accomplishment is when you achieved what you aim for. ...that day is calls for a grand celebration.....
Congratulation on your Birthday or I say Anniversary😉...being together with Steem and living happily...👍.....

My idea on it is closer to yours than the traditional birthday routine. For me, birthdays are a good moment to look back and re-assess, see if I am happy where I am, if I'm following the road I set out on a year before and if not, am I happy with where this new road is taking me?
That being said, I do appreciate a good birthday cake/prezzie every now and again :P So, happy Steemversary! To many more ;)
Congrats! I think looking back is always good to reflect on our journeys and adjust accordingly as there is always opportunity to improve in one aspect or another. While we often get into a comfort zone, reflection allows us to take a step back and think. Given our mental process of rounding numbers, these dates around milestones gives us a chance to do so more consciously. Enjoy my friend!

@anomadsoul happy two years on steem, I feel im on the right path and it all comes down to how much time im willing to put into Steem. The more interact the more others interact with me, and it really shows long term you can really network here.

Exactly man, the amount of "success" we get on this ecosystem is proportional to the amount of time/effort we invest into it. I´m glad that you feel like you´re following the right path!
I think everyone approaches birthdays differently.
For me, having depression since 16 and multiple failed attempts to exit out of this plane of existence birthdays are more "You made it through another year!" landmarks and not so much about being the centre of attention for a day but a reflection on the year that was and the journey.
Oh mate this doesn´t sound so good, I hope you´re joking about it! But if you ever need to speak with someone hit me up on discord :)
It's not the best but it's been my journey ❤ and you know what they say..
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
In my case I would say I definitely see the world and approach life my own way.

Happy anniverary! I don't see much need for you to analyze your activity on the platform as it's pretty obvious that you've done quite well! Nice to see you're on the road again...
Yes but thats the point (at least for me), no matter how good or bad you think you´re doing, analyzing and comparing where you are to where you want to be is a great thing to do :D
Happy steem-iversary fellow @ocd bro! :)
Thanks fellow OCDbro :D
Happy 2nd Steemversary mate

Well... Congrats on the 2 year steem anniversary dude. That's a great milestone. It's good to see you still posting regularly m8.
To answer your question at the end of the post.
I personally look on my birthday as both a time to reflect on what I'd like to change about my life and what I'm happy with, and also just an excuse to party with friends. I've a real small family so it's not that important to me to spend time with them on my birthday. All in all, it's just another day, but with an excuse for a get together with friends 🙂
