Today I Learned That The World Map We Know Is WRONG

The traditional world map that we know and see everywhere is not as accurate as you might think.
It shows many proportions like the size of certain countries or the difference between continents in a totally distorted context.

Now, japanese artist and architect Hajime Narukawa has created a new model that resembles the real proportions! 


This is it, the AuthaGraph World Map:

It has even received a design award.

No matter if you look at it flat, round, or even wrapped around a triangle - the proportion always stays realistic. 


What surprises you most about this map?

For me, it's to see how close africa actually is to europe, and how incredibly far south america is from australia !!!

omg africa is sooo close! the whole left side of the map looks just like all countries bunched together lol.
And the oceans look endlessly big

love the concept of this, that's so clever. I hope kids will learn about a more realistic world map in the future
