Kızı Teodora’yı Orhan Gazi’ye veren Bizans kralı VI.Yoannis Kantakuzinos’la V.Yoannis Paleoloğos arasındaki kavgada, Kontakuzinos’un yardım istemesi üzerine Orhan Gazi, Süleyman Paşa kumandasında asker göndererek kayınpederinin imdadına koşmuştu.
Süleyman Paşa 1349’da yirmi bin kişilik bir kuvvetle Bizanslıların düşmanı Sırpların eline düşmek üzere olan Selanik’in imdadına yetişti ve Sırpları perişan ederek Selanik’i kurtardı.

Birkaç yıl içerisinde Gelibolu yarımadasında ve Trakya’da büyük topraklar, Osmanlı Devleti Sınırlarına dahil edilmiştir. Şehzade Süleyman, Gelibolu’nun yanı sıra; Bolayır, Ece-Ova, Konur-Hisar, Tekirdağ, İpsala, Malkara, Hayrabolu ve Keşan’ı da fethetmiştir.
Mezarı Bolayır'da bulunmaktadır.
