North of Baku - where silence begins

in #travel4 years ago

Hi everyone,

I'm sorry for being away for over a week. I want to countinue my travel around the Black Sea with my girl ;)

Below you can see some great shots from the north of Azerbaijan, the eastern part of the Caucasus mountains with some interesting facts and a short report.

The north of Azerbaijan is characterized not only by interesting nature but above all by interesting culture. Until recently, some villages in this region were cut off from the world. These regions were strongly resisted by communism, so you can still come across relics of old beliefs and customs in some places. Such a main example is the settlement of Hinalug and Laza hidden among the mountain valleys. We, because of having only two days, had to choose which village to go to. The choice was made for Laza because of the fact that on the internet the town was presented as "lying among the majestic mountains". And how was it really? You'll see :)

The road from Baku to Guba leads along the Caspian Sea. Somewhere in the middle of the road you pass a quite characteristic mountain called Beszbarmak (520 m), whose name is translated as five fingers.

And so we traveled

We weren't planning to visit Guby. After a four-hour bus journey without air conditioning, we took advantage of the offer of a local taxi driver. Unfortunately, due to the heat of that time I was completely confused and tired of any price haggling. We immediately got into a taxi and after almost an hour and a half we landed in Laza.

Gravel road, very nice but look at these mountains 😍

Laza Town

Laza lies in the beautiful scenery of the highest mountains of Azerbaijan, with a wide Sahdag massif (4243 m) It is the second highest peak in the country.

We had a tent with us, so we were looking for the best place to set it up.

We decided to crash on the hill, which is visible on the right in the picture below, near the waterfalls.

Unfortunately, the next day the weather broke down and it rained a little bit. The mountains were covered with clouds, so I don't have nice pictures 🙁

On the way back I took one photo of the ski resort being built then. Azerbaijan is more and more open to tourism to follow in the footsteps of Georgia.

Discovering such places is a great pleasure for us, we certainly have to go back there because we have one more wonderful place left - Hinalug.

Sorry for the quality of the picture but all photos were taken by phone :)

Thank you for reading and take care!
