Tbilisi, the second Europe!

in #travel4 years ago

Hi everyone,

Below is a continuation of our adventures around the Black Sea. I invite you to read. 😉 Today is about capital of Georgia -Tbilisi!

When we came back from Lazy, we wanted to go to Tbilisi as soon as possible. The road to the capital of Georgia leads through Ganja. It is the second largest city in Azerbaijan. We were a little scared because at the station we were told that this is the most dangerous city in the country and for sure somebody will rob us. That's why, unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of this city, because from the station in Ganja we went straight to the train station, where at 4 am the train to Tbilisi arrived.

Although in a straight line the two cities are more than 150 kilometres apart, the journey took 7 hours. All for a 5 hours train stop at the border.

After leaving the train at Tbilisi Central Station, we were looking for some Wifi to find ourselves a hostel!
After almost 24 hours of traveling by various means of transport we were very tired and not very enthusiastic. That's why on that day we went out in the evening only to the nearby park, where the festival was taking place. On the stage you could watch various performances, among others "Georgian Ballet".

Tbilisi is a city that attracts attention with houses located on the slopes of the mountains. Openwork decorations of buildings and balconies and medieval churches towering over the city from all sides make an impression on tourists.

We started our tour with the Holy Trinity Council. It is located on the hill of St. Elijah in the center of Tbilisi. The largest sacral building in Georgia. The Council of Tbilisi is one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world. It is 68 m high (not counting the cross on the dome). Its dimensions on the east-west axis are 77 m, and on the north-south axis 65 m. The area of the temple is 5000 m². Inside the cathedral there are 11 altars.

The 1995-2004 Council is considered to be the symbol of independent Georgia.

Going to the side of the Kura River, next to the Presidential Palace we reach a beautiful viewpoint.

The view of the city from here is really amazing!

There is a cable car in the park, which runs over the town up to Narikal's fortress.

Part of Narikal's wall

The fortress dominates Tbilisi and is visible from almost everywhere. The first buildings in this place were erected by the Persians in the 4th century. The walls which can be seen in today's shape are due to the Mongols from the 16th century. After the earthquake in 1827 the fortress suffered and partly decided to demolish it.

We go down from this beautiful place to the old town. No new investments can be seen here, and the buildings of the great years are already behind us. In some of them traditional inner courtyards with arcades on several storeys have been preserved. You can find here buildings with beautiful architectural elements and various cafés.

Of course, it was not without tasting traditional Georgian cuisine.

Going in the direction of the visible Presidential Palace we reach the river Kura and a beautiful bridge. The pedestrian bridge in Tbilisi is called the Peace Bridge. Despite its original, even futuristic construction, the building has blended in with the architecture of old Tbilisi. It is made of steel and glass, and is particularly impressive when lit at night.

And here we have finished our tour of the city. One intensive day showed us how beautiful and architecturally rich is the capital of Georgia - Tbilisi.

Sorry for the quality of the picture but all photos were taken by phone :)
