Exploring Antigua Guatemala and La Merced Church

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Today is our first official day in Guatemala and the city of Antigua. Finally I can get to show off some great pictures for all of you.

We had a full day of exploring and eating so let’s get started!

Hotel Grounds

We have a lovely hotel that is lush, full of green plants, trees and roses everywhere!

Such a peaceful feeling of tranquility through out the hotel. It is super quite at night but was great for us to sleep like babies!

Great spot here to have our breakfast. Which today we had fruit, bread and tea.

Another small garden spot has a talking parrot... to keep you company if you’re alone... 😁

Best Coffee in Guatemala

After we enjoyed our small breakfast in the courtyard of our hotel, we walked over to Fat Cat coffee house for some of the best coffee Guatemala has to offer.

Not only does it taste fanominal but they know presentation also matters

Take note of the selfie stick... always ready to blog for Steemit!

Antigua Central Square

As we walked around we spotted the central square of Antigua where most locals and tourists hang out.

I will save all the beautiful iconic photos from here on another post as I still need to get some more of them.

Until then, here is a sneak peak of us in front of the fountain.

La Merced Church

Today we stumbled across a spectacular church and we just had to explore more.

This colonial style building is one of the most stunning in Antigua. The fascinating architecture was designed to showcase hope and glory.

I wanted to show you the cross in this shot above as it gives it the full perspective. It is one of the longest lasting pieces that survived powerful earth quakes since the 1700s.

Here is a close up to really appreciate this beautiful designed building.

Who’s that guy in front of the building... 😆

We went into the surrounding parts of the church. They have a beautiful large court yard with one of the largest fountains in Antigua.

Then we ventured to the top terrance that you can see in the picture above.

Here there were spectacular views of mountains and volcanoes.

I got a great black and white photo up here as well.

Wanted to save it for a photo challenge here on Steemit but I can’t wait!!

All this blogging got me hungry.

You know how we had to end the day.

With amazing tacos...
