Sakis - Iceland trip (Part 2)

in #travel7 years ago

Bath in Blue Lagoon was a unique experience but our mind was occupied from the question "where this water comes from?". It is really amazing that Iceland is the only country in the world that can claim to obtain 100% of its electricity and heat from renewable sources so a visit to such a hot spring was a must. We left from Blue lagoon taking few pics more

After a short drive landscape started to take an orange-yellow color sth which means we got closer to sulfur source. One of the 600 hot spring area was close.

Actually you can even smell it and of course when you walk in the area odor is so tense that you must cover your nose, see what i mean :-)

Scenery is from another planet and cool for a movie BUT be careful as there are areas where everything is extremely hot and there is a risk of burns

As night was coming (night in Iceland during May is around 23.00) we decided to depart. On our road to Reykjavik we saw a beautiful lake where we stopped for half an hour to relax and enjoy this tranquility. We were all alone watching this amazing scenery. Have to say that this season tourists are not so many so you can find yourself driving alone in a vast area. Bear in mind that Iceland has only around 400000 inhabitants!!

thank you buddy

As an Icelander I always love to her (and see) how other people see my country. Like your story and photos, will follow you for more :)

And by the way. I love your country, whent there few times in the 90' and in no place (except in remote iseland of Flatey in Iceland) do I find so much tranquility as on the small islands. My favorite is Sifnos, being there 3 times, love it :)

oh love to see both your comments haha yeap Sifnos is nice though in summer not so quiet haha personally i love glaciers and volcanoes in your country and of course cascades

Mesmerizing views!! lovely captures. Now i really want to visit the place

glad to read this, it means my post had high value many thanks

You know the water in the blue lagoon is a waste water from the district heating of Suðurnes (Keflavik, Grindavik, Njarðvík). It´s clean of cours as it comes from the cleaning system of ther earth but very rich of silica and sulfur. Then somone discoverd that it was very good to bathe in it if you had phsoriasis or any skin problem. But I think it has become much to pricy to go there. I havn´t gone ther for years now as I think it´s toooooo expencive :o But glad you liked it :) And nice photos you got there :)

thnx a lot mariap yes i would say it is overestimated and way too expensive anymore i saw the entrance fee right now it is double price than a visit to Acropolis here in Athens, it is a joke if we compare value of each but ok ... i would say you can stay out and see part of it and simply not bath ........ as i said in my post there much more interesting places in Iceland
