Mérida:
Merida, by its full name Santiago de los Caballeros de Merida (literally "Saint-Jacques-des-Chevaliers-de-Merida"), is a city in Venezuela, capital of the state of Mérida, capital of the municipality of Libertador and principal city of Venezuelan Andes.
Located on a plateau in the Chama Valley and dominated by the highest point of the country, Bolívar peak and its 4 981 meters above sea level, the city Mérida is at 1600 meters altitude. Founded in 1558 by the Spanish captain Juan Rodríguez Suárez, the city depends on the Captaincy General of Venezuela and then the Viceroyalty of New Granada and plays an important role during the War of Independence of Venezuela.
In 2001, the city is ranked 18th in terms of population with 204 879 inhabitants while the metropolitan area reaches 500 000 inhabitants. Headquarters of the University of the Andes and the Archdiocese of Mérida, the city is the largest student and tourist center in the West of the country with the highest cable car in the world.

Bordeaux, in the heart of the wine region, is a port city located on the Garonne, in the south-west of France. It is famous for the Gothic cathedral of Saint-André, its mansions built in the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as its art museums such as the Museum of Fine Arts of Bordeaux. The public gardens follow the curves of the quays along the river. The Place de la Bourse, in the center of which sits the fountain of the Three Graces, is reflected in the mirror of water.
