I decided to take a long awaited trip to tossa de mar, it was always somewhere I was curious to visit, since on photographs it has a picturesque medieval castle and beautiful beach with rocks nestled between the mountains
Tossa de mar is a beach side resort too but in this season life was pretty quaint. Alot of shops and restaurants were closed, so were the hotels. I didn't want to imagine how busy and over run it could get in summer.
Something about this location however is more low key than the beach resort before lloret de mar, which is full of tourists all year around, probably because its more easily accessible.
To reach Tossa de mar you must take quite a windy road through the mountains which made me feel quite queezy before arriving.
But once I had arrived the fresh sea air and beautiful sunset settled me. I walked along the promenade towards the castle.
I was pleasantly surprised by the old medieval town which is apparently one of the only walled villages in tact on the coast of the Costa brava
It was like taking a trip back in time, lots of stone houses, and people were also living inside. I couldn't imagine how annoying it could possibly be to live in a zone where many people are walking around all day since your home is a historical tourist attraction. I can only Imagine these homes are settled by people who love history and don't mind people.
The medieval walled village is called
Vila Vella enceinte
And its present state dates back to the 14th century
The interior of the Old Town is a charming place with narrow, cobblestoned streets, the Governor's House (now the Municipal museum), the House of Holy Cloth ("Sant Drap"), a medieval hospital, and remnants of a Romanesque church and a Gothic church.
Tossa de mar is a magical place and i hope if you visit catalonia you have a chance to visit, let me know what you think.
