AFAIK, the capital of Thailand (that was called Siam before 1949) is Bangkok.

I did a search on Google and apparently Siam is a shopping district in Bangkok so it is a part of the capital. As you say the name of the country was changed in 1949. Nice picture also.

I went to Thailand a few years ago, spent a day or two in Bangkok and then I went to Pattaya to scuba dive. The people were very friendly and the wats are beautiful.
