Mount Nebo Jordan In The Land Of Moab
This is the windswept peak in the land of Moab, where Moses ascended to view the "Land Of Promise." Mount Nebo in Jordan offers a 360 degree view of the Promised Land. From this very summit, Moses could see this panoramic view of The Land Of Cannon. This experience is recorded in Deuteronomy.
Deuteronomy 34:1-4
1And Moses went up from the plains of Moab unto the mountain of Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is over against Jericho. And the LORD shewed him all the land of Gilead, unto Dan, 2And all Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim, and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah, unto the utmost sea, 3And the south, and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, unto Zoar. 4And the LORD said unto him, This is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither.
Today, pilgrims, tourists, and adventurers all make this 2,690 foot climb to the summit of Mount Nebo to see what Moses saw, so many years ago. On a clear sunny day, you can see the Promised Land in her original entirety.The countries may be different, but the spectacular view is the same. Mount Nebo is now in the Western part of Jordan, where it still looks down on the Dead Sea, which is a little more than 1300 feet below sea level. What an amazing and spectacular view!
The beautiful clear "Spring of Moses" on Mount Nebo In Jordan
The "Spring of Moses" is nestled among the tilled areas around the spring where there are beautiful Olive Trees, Citrus Trees, and Eucalyptus. Nearby are close-up views of Bedouin encampments. Some of these sites are hundred of years old. Here the Bedouins have built their encampments in sheltered areas of the mountain, where they could be protected from the elements. There is also a church in ruins close by the spring.
The climb up Mount Nebo is much easier than in the former days. There are tours which include the mountain summit, as well as time at the spring, so it is no longer necessary to hike to the top. On a clear sunny day, the panoramic views are spectacular from the summit. No Jordan adventure is complete without time spent on Mount Nebo.
