The Lost Fisherman's Memorial To Those Lost At Sea
The Lost Fisherman's Memorial Park gives honor to all those who have have lost their lives in the fishing industry in the waters of Washington, County Maine, and Charlotte County, New Brunswick, Canada. At the present time there are 111 brave fisherman etched into the Memorial. The Wave sculpture was the accomplishment of Jesse Salisbury, a local granite sculptor. As time progresses, the Fisherman's Memorial Park will honor these brave men and women who lost their lives while fishing in the these waters through stories, and information about their lives on the parks website. The list of fishermen include those who were lost since 1900, as well as those who lived in these two counties, but were fishing elsewhere when tragedy struck.
Ironically, across the water is an iconic view of Mulholland Point Lighthouse in Canada. This was one of the lighthouses that always stood guard on the channel helping them finish their journey home. Mulholland Point Lighthouse was built in 1884 as the wooden octagonal lighthouse you see today. The 60 foot light was added in 1885 and is seen for 13 miles.
Fishing is still a major industry in the two counties, and the Memorial Park give honor to many of the ancestors of current fisherman. While traveling in the area, it is good to drop by the Memorial Park to honor those who who were lost at sea, and to bask in the spectacular view of Mulholland Point Lighthouse. When traveling in this area, remember to carry your passport, as many things are in both nations or one or the other.

The memorial is very serene and solemn. There were some red flowers on top of the stone that serves at a seat, probably in memory of someone lost at sea, and maybe for one of the names on the granite stones. It's a beautiful spot.
