Trip to Greek Paradise destination. Natural monuments and unexpected friends.

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Lichades or Lichadonisia (Greek: Λιχάδες or Λιχαδονήσια) is an island complex north west of Euboea, in the North Euboean Gulf. The islands located opposite Lichada cape in the north-western extreme of Euboea and opposite of small town Kamena Vourla in Central Greece mainland. Administratively, they belong to Istiaia-Aidipsos municipality, in Euboea regional unit.

The complex consists of seven islands and islets. The biggest of them is Monolia and is the only that had residents in the past. The other six are Strongyli, Mikri Strongyli, Steno, Vagia, Vorias and Limani. The biggest island, Monolia has a beautiful beach and is visited by many tourists in the summer. In the past had a small settlement but nowadays is forsaken. Strongyli is the second largest island and on top has a big lighthouse.

The trip and the natural monument

On our way from Chalkida to north Euboea we stopped at a natural monument. We had a small walk to get there  not because it couldn't be reached by car but because of this...

and this...

on our way we made some new friends (no animals were harmed during this photoshoot XD)

and the actual monument was a HUGE plane tree.  It was separated in twoparts one living and one fallen on the floor.

Our destination Lichadonisia

We were transported from the Euboea "dock" (just a really small dock with 2 small fishboats) and right in the middle of our trip to the island we made a second unexpected friend.

There is a family of three seals living in the complex of the island taking advantage of the cover and protection they offer as well as the feeding opportunities. The seal came closer to give us a nice dive for farewell.

Finally we arrived at the main island.

all of it was covered with these black rocks that emerged from the earthquake and everywhere you looked you could see and olive tree. The beach was in a really small bay and because the tides of the water were really strong you were not aloud to swim outside of the bay so if you plan on visiting I would not suggest to do so in hot season.
