The Osu Kannon (大須観音) is one of the most popular Buddhist temples in Japan. It is located in central Nagoya. It was constructed during the Kamakura Period (1192-1333).
The temple was moved to its current site by Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1612 due to repeated severe damage by flooding. The buildings you see today are 20th-century reconstructions.
Osu Kannon Temple is accessible from Tsurumai Subway Line, through the Osu Kannon Station.
From Nagoya Station, I took the Higashiyama Subway Line and transferred to the Tsurumai Line at Fushimi Station. From Nagoya, it took only about ten minutes and cost 200 yen.
The Osu Shopping District is over 400 years old. Many commercial streets connect the locale with a many Buddhist temples. It has flourished as a center for traditional entertainment and culture from the start.
The area now features more than 1000 businesses and establishments, ranging from very old ones to newly-constructed shops.
The place is popular not only for shopping but also for sightseeing.
Tourists from abroad can enjoy shopping in the Osu Shopping District with security and assurance. It takes pride in cleanliness as well. It's a unique place of its kind in Japan.
I also bought awesome souvenirs.
Good food is not uncommon so I didn't go hungry!
Many bargain shops offer better-than-reasonable prices as well.
These toys are also popular here!
Fast food, street food or fine-dining: You'll never run out of choices!
And for the dessert:
