Well, Allow Me to Drop This BOMBSHELL on Ya! ~ #sayonarausa

in #travel3 years ago

Sup Hive fam?! Been a hot month since I've really checked in with y'all, and for good reason. I've been a busy, busy bee. Doing what?, you ask. Well, it takes some time to list your house, show it, and then sell it.

image.png

Also takes time to sell your favorite car of all time.

Also takes time to sell all of your belongings.

Also, time goes really, really slow when you know the end of an era is commencing, such as the last day at my job, which I put my notice in three weeks ago.

Remember that vacation to PVR I took with my brother a month or so ago? You can refresh yourself here.

Well, it was part vacation, part scout mission.

The scout mission went so well, that for once in my wife and I's life, the puzzle pieces finally fit. The circumstances all around us were telling us, pulling at us, basically screaming at us....

The TIME is NOW!

So we looked at each other and said....now or never.

This #HIVE family is packing up and MOVING to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Technically, a smaller city about 30 minutes north, but you've probably never heard of it, so we'll go with PVR for now.

The facial looks from my GM, my parents, my siblings, my co-workers, friends, and acquaintances varied from sheer shock and disbelief, to "good for you" and "I'm not surprised".

My wife and I have always had a thirst for adventure and change. This will most definitely acquiesce our desires I would think.

Lot's of logistics have been in the works for the past few weeks. We are loading up our Suburban with everything we own that we haven't sold and making the drive. But we are taking our time, and going to stop and visit some people and places along the way.

I look at this road trip as a journey. No time tables really set, no places to be, no man to oblige. Just my family and me and time spent together.

I hope to catalogue this journey for all of you here and I hope you'll follow along.

Wish us luck and as always, thanks for reading.

Oh, and to answer the top few questions I get asked every time I tell someone about this...to save you from asking...

1: No, I don't have a job lined up down there. I have some options, but I'll figure it out.

2: No, we don't have a house or property to live at. We rented and Airbnb for the first month, and will go from there.

3: Yes and no, I speak enough Spanish to get by.

4: Yes and no, I don't really know anyone down there, besides 2 great guys I met while on the scout mission, @pjmetz and @surfersparadise.

5: We are doing this for a lot of reasons. Some personal belief, some based on climate, some based on how we want to spend our short time here on earth, and many others, but those are the prime ones.

Sort:

This was us nearly 13 years ago, just from England to Australia, and except for answer 3 (the language is the same after all) we were the same. Good luck with everything. Hopefully your flight is a shorter one than ours was (assuming you're not driving). 😉 That was probably the worst thing about the move.

My best mate Piter is heading back to Australia with his family, hopefully later this year. He went to Uni there, and his sister just had a baby there. They both are Brazilian. We are for sure planning to visit at some point when they get all settled.

We are driving :) Making some out of the way stops, but we want to sight see and enjoy the trip. No real time sets or obligations. Just ride.

Thanks so much for the well wishes!

Driving sounds like a much better option. Hopefully no breakdowns, though. 😅

This is inspiring and wonderful, @intothewild, I love it. My parents did a similar thing about a decade ago. They both quit their jobs, sold their stuff, and moved to Progreso (actually, ocean-front, on the peninsula of Mexico).

Wishing you and your wife a fulfilling journey and life there, and with the confidence I feel overflowing from your post, I'm sure things will continue 'clicking' for you down there.

P.S. I'm insanely new to Hive and know almost nothing about voting, power-ups, curation, etc., but I have learned about 'delegation', and just wanted to say I'm deeply, deeply appreciative. 🙌😁🙏

Thanks so much @ryzeonline for the thoughtful response.

I delegate to new users who clearly have ambition to post here. The RC credit thing can be a downer for a newbie, I try to help mitigate that by delegating to people I think will benefit the community.

Keep up your energy and consistency, and success here will follow.

My pleasure! And it's really inspiring. I'm sure most (if not all) of these ambitious newbies appreciate your investment, delegation, and vote of confidence.

I felt crippled at the start and this really gave me the freedom to post and contribute and engage. In fact, I'm writing a guide for beginners about all this stuff already. Thanks again!

You'll love it and also be so welcome down here. Right in time for the best surf season of the year too and the awesome south swell which kisses our coast at this time of the year. So many opportunities do do whatever business you like. there's always room for 1 more. See you soon amigo

I’m so excited to surf. And to get a real sense of the lay of the land.

Soon enough my friend! Soon enough.

Good morning @intothewild. I can't believe you are actually doing this move, with three kids no less. Good for you man. I truly wish you the very best. Very brave.
I have never been to Mexico, but my parents were there many times over the years and I have seen lots of pix. That place is paradise.
Good luck, keep us posted, document your journey for us.

Thanks so much @farm-mom. I'll keep ya posted for sure :)

That is awesome! Congrats on that! That is going to be quite the change going to from the great north to south of the border! I wish you the best of luck! The way things have been going as long as you are active on here, this could be your new full time job. I have some friends that recently decided to move further down state. They are mostly working from home and realized nothing was really holding them to this area anymore. Godspeed!

That is going to be quite the change going to from the great north to south of the border!

Yeah, about 80 degrees change from November to March!!!

Lol, thanks man. I don't plan on Hive being enough to to live off, at least for me. But will always be here because of some great friendships I have made.

I appreciate the support.

No problem! It would take a lot for me to be able to live off Hive too.

Nice. Kinda jealous. What was your favorite car of all time?

SOB, I wrote a huge reply, put a good amount of time into it honestly, and it didn't send, bummer....twas a 2013 Lincoln MKT. I'll tell you the now gone forever version some time in the future when you visit me down in MX.

Ah yeah. I haven't been in a Lincoln with it but I know those EcoBoost V6s are something.

Re: losing the comment, damn man, I hate when that stuff happens. I haven't heard of it happening recently, but I can forward a bug report about it if you can give me a little detail of how it got lost.

Re: Mexico, I kind of like to keep my real life distanced from here, but we'll see! I'm looking forward to what you share from your life there. Still jealous.

Twin turbo V6 w/ ecoboost....man. Most people had a look of surprise when I blasted past them or met them at red light....like "that's a Lincoln?" I loved it, and it was smooth like a Lincoln too. Ok, I'm not gonna cry...

I'm pretty sure it was my fault, idk how, but I think I just deleted it on accident after I had hit "reply" thinking it had gone through...oh well...

Well, you do you man. Just lmk if you ever decide to swing on down :) I'll be sure to keep everyone here up to date.

Congrats! I lived in a little beach town south of there a long time ago. Beautiful place and excellent people!

The people are really amazing @mada. I met some good ones. MX def gets a bad rap on the MSM. I should have added in the "questions I've been asked a thousand times" section...."like, aren't you afraid of the cartels?!?!"

Nope.

How far South were you? I'm already looking for vacation, vacation spots 😂

I was in Yelapa, just a boat ride down the coast from Vallarta. 20+ years ago, but the amazing waterfalls probably haven't changed.

Dude, my buddy I met down there, who has recently been crushing it here on Hive, just posted about Yelapa! Check it out, should be hopefully quite a trip down memory lane for ya.

https://peakd.com/haveyoubeenhere/@pjmetz/a-beautiful-wedding-weekend-in-paradise-yelapa-jalisco-mexico

I hope to make a visit after we get settled. It looks amazing.

This is so exciting! I've been considering leaving the US for over a decade but I'm not sure the dream will ever come true for me. I wish you good luck in this next chapter! You should connect with @tangerinetravels for tips on the expat life in Mexico.

I've been considering leaving the US for over a decade

I got that one a lot, too.

"But you're actually doing it!!", yeah, we are.

It's up to you if you really want to Eric.

I remember seeing them join Steem way back in the day not long after I joined. I'll check them out again, thanks for the recommendation bud!

Now that's some huge news, My reply will include the Good for you response and good luck.
It's now or never, is a good way to look at something this big. Looking at it that way lets you know if you are really into it or not. As you may have heard me say before, Dreams are ideas put into motion, and you have your dreams rolling right along.

It was kind of strange not seeing you post in a while, and now we know why.
We'll excuse your lack of showing your face around here this time, but in the future, I expect to hear all about your adventure on a regular basis. 😁

Stay safe my friend.

Dreams are ideas put into motion

Gahhhhhhh, we're gonna be in some motion @thebigsweed.

Very kind message and I greatly appreciate your words and support. I'll be sure to show more of my mug round these parts in the near future, as I should have plenty of time to do so.

....and! I recall @farm-mom telling me to behave myself on one of my MX posts...and now hopefully she knows, it was all for my fam 😘 😂

"it was all for my fam"
Parents that think like you are our kind of people.

I hope you'll come visit someday bud! Would love to meet ya irl :)

One of these days we may take you up on that invitation, especially if you cook a meal using your propane torch trick.

You really surprised me! I guess you were planning more than I understood, I thought it was just a little vacation. Now you will be on a BIG vacation with the entire family.
Best wishes.

Yeah, I had to keep it under wraps a lil bit. Didn't know how things would pan out and I have a tendency to say I'm going to do something and then never follow through....glad I can say that this time that isn't the case.

It really is fantastic you went for it. Just enjoy the ride and see what happens. You can always switch gears any time you want. You never want to to say I WISH...woulda coulda shoulda. Have the best life ever.

Dude, this is absolutely amazing news!!! To take that leap of faith and follow your conviction is the best approach to living life to its fullest! I firstly want to say if there is ANYTHING you need, Ill be there for you amigo. What a transition, I am beyond excited to follow your journey and grow as friends now that we will be neighbors! Feel free to hit me up for anything my man!

Neighbors!!! That's pretty crazy to think about. But soon enough my friend, soon enough.

I firstly want to say if there is ANYTHING you need, Ill be there for you amigo.

That's refreshing to hear man. I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions, but I'll try not to be a pain in the ass ;)

See ya soon amigo!

You don't need any of those things. And I'm not just talking the numbered items, getting rid of everything was liberating.

Dude we sold off some stuff for about a year maybe, things like records and collectibles. Then on the last weekend I just put a "free everything" sign outside and the joint was cleaned out by lunch.

Really prouda you homes.

The wife has been talking about living a minimalist lifestyle for some time now, even though it's in her nature to accumulate unnecessary crap. Well, now she doesn't really have a choice. I'm still on the fence on getting a roof rack for more cargo. She is pushing for it, but I don't know if I really wanna carry more shit all the way down there. We'll see I guess..

I'm looking forward to that "free everything" sign, just wanna be done with it all.

Really prouda you homes.

Means a lot Arts.

Say no to roof racks

I wish you all the best on you journey and adventure, brave!

Thanks @harkar! Not going the way of my ancestors and braving the harsh winters anymore. I'll have to view through your lens for my winter and Norwegian fix.

What an adventure!!

That is going t make months of epic blogs with all the adventure and exotic new sights!

Congrats and I can't wait to follow that adventure!

I've thought about that too, @zekepickleman.

What will we see?

What adventure will fall upon us?

That's kinda the fun of it. The unknown. But it's also kinda scary too, just don't know how/if everything will play out well. So my idea is to not plan much, and just go with the flow.

Hope to keep you captivated soon enough my friend. Thanks for swinging by.

I think we are reaching a point where a critical mass of people will start fleeing the US for more freedom. Best of luck! Thanks to the internet, lots of freelance and remote work options are out there.

Thanks a lot @jacobtothe.

I think we are reaching a point where a critical mass of people will start fleeing the US.

I missed the BTC boat by $800. Not super late, but I had heard about it earlier and didn't act.

Hopefully this is us catching the wave out early.

A job will come, when I least expect it. Like looking for love, just stop and it will find you.

Thanks for your time, bud.
