Manuel Antonio National Park and Beach

The Manuel Antonio National Park is a small biological island with different productive activities such as agriculture, livestock and high tourism development. It is one of the most beautiful national parks in Costa Rica.

Location
This wild area is located on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, in the province of Puntarenas. It is located about 157 km south of San José by road and 7 km south of the city of Quepos.

Flora and Fauna
The Manuel Antonio National Park has great richness in the form of its flora and fauna, with records of 352 species of birds, 109 species of mammals, varied marine fauna and 346 species of plants. The bird species that are frequently seen in the area are Aracari, pelicans, hawks, sparrow hawks, green turtles. You can also observe iguanas, lizards and snakes. Some of the most prominent mammals are the raccoon, the coatis, the agoutis, the two-toed sloth, the white-faced monkey, and the squirrel monkey.

During the rainy season, the abundance of water and food within the forest makes it possible for the animals to stay better unlike the dry season, when they look for food near the beach. Some of these animals are nocturnal so it is difficult to detect them during the day.

This area has the most beautiful white sand beaches, trails where you can see first hand the nature that offers the tropical forest.
The entrance of the vehicles reaches the third beach and allows access for people with disabilities in compliance with the 7600 law.

The three most visited are: Espadilla Sur Beach: which has a slightly strong swell, but is not dangerous for bathers. Its length is 800 meters and it is located in a bay. The beach of Puerto Escondido that is relatively small and has 80 meters in length. And finally Manuel Antonio beach: one of the safest for bathers, with waves that are not very strong and where you can practice snorkeling, mainly towards the ends, by the rocks, where there is a great amount of marine fauna.
