Island Adventures #2 - Full Moon Party & Blood Moon Eclipse

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

At the end of every month this peaceful paradise transforms into a bustling tourist attraction with travelers from all around the world traveling to Koh Phangan to party under the full moon at the Full Moon Party in Haad Rin.

This party is extremely popular, attracting 10 000 - 30 000 people every month. It is a beach party on the beautiful Haad Rin beach where people dance the night away until the sun comes up, and if you're not able to make it until sunrise there is also a dedicated sleeping area on the beach, or so I've been told. Most people don't bother trying to find the sleeping area as they just sleep where they fall.

It is a relatively big party area where you can roam around not only on the beach but also in the back streets behind the beach where you will find many Thai style snacks ranging from fried chicken to fried insects. Alcohol is widely available all over the beach at a premium price of course. If you're looking to save a little money, there are plenty of 7/11's around, so just wander away from the beach and you'll find the same thing a bit cheaper. While on the topic of saving money, there is an entry fee of 100 THB which is not expensive at all and you get a souvenir bracelet as proof of payment. If you're looking to save the 100 THB just show up to the beach a few hours before the party and simply walk in without any questions asked, however you'll miss out on the bracelet and once you leave the party area for any reason you'll not be allowed back in without paying.

There's not really much more to say about the party that you won't see in the video apart from a few hygiene and safety tips.

  1. Wear either shoes or flip-flops and never take them off due to broken bottles or any other kind of trash that
might injure you and ruin your night.

  2. Do not go for a swim in the ocean as this is the main urinal due to expensive bathroom entry prices.

  3. While roaming along the beach and through different dance floors trying to find your vibe, chances are you'll come across somebody trying to sell you some sort of drug - it's a trap. Do not buy from these guys at parties, there are many other places on the island where you can safely go and buy whatever your poison might be. (The last thing you want is to be caught with any drugs on you in Thailand. Thailand has a very strict policy on drugs and you might end up in a very sticky situation that could have been avoided.)

  4. Pack your friendly attitude to the party and leave your ego at home! Thai culture is very different from western culture and this is the perfect setup for a fight among tourists and locals. When coming here, keep in mind that this is not your country and that inevitably, at some point somebody will try to fuck you over. It is very important not to lose your temper with a Thai person. Thai people are united in a way we can not understand and you'll never be in a fight with just one Thai person, all Thai people around WILL jump in to help their fellow countrymen when push comes to shove. Always remain humble and wear a warm smile at all times, it will just make your stay here more pleasant. Thailand is after all the land of a thousand smiles.

  5. There are trash cages all over the beach so please use them and do your part in helping to keep the environment clean and safe for others.

The full Moon party is not by any means my favorite party due to personal interests. There are various great parties on the island and I will bring them all to you on DTube so you can decide for yourself which one is your cup of tea.

I hope you guys enjoy the video and don't forget to follow me @kohexperience
