Road trip across the United States from Florida to Grand Canyon, AZ

I was in an adventurous mood in 2013 and decided to drop everything and go on a long road trip in my car with my girlfriend. This trip lasted about a month and it was one of the best and fun things I’ve ever done in my life. I highly recommend this to anybody who’s feeling like they need something different in their life. I still have great memories about it and plan to do this again at some point. This idea started at the end of 2012 when I was living in a tiny ocean front studio in Daytona Beach, Florida. That was a great experience after leaving a corporate job. So, we waited until our lease was up, put everything in storage (which wasn’t much), got in the car and started driving from Florida to the Grand Canyon.

This was my view from the balcony that I was leaving behind:

Here I am excited and determined to go on this month-long drive:

This was a real road trip with only a few hotels stops when we got tired or wanted to spend more time in one place. However, most of the time we rested and slept in the car.

Entering Arizona was like landing on another planet. I’ve never been to a place so different in landscape from what I was used to. We immediately knew that all this driving to get there was worth once we saw the mountains, red stones, and Native American places as soon as we entered Arizona. We headed to the Grand Canyon from there. This was our first real stop where we got a hotel room, so we can enjoy our stay there.

This was our view when we walked out of the room:

Spending time there was a magical experience. Besides the vastness and the beauty of the canyon itself, you could really see the stars at night. The air was fresh, so it really felt refreshing, especially after spending so much time in the car. There was so much more we could explore there then we did in a couple of days but that’s not what this trip was about. One day I’ll go back there and explore all that place has to offer.

While taking pictures of the canyon, we noticed that some of the stones are shaped like pyramids and not mercenarily in a natural way. I’m really interested in the ancient Egyptian culture and found that interesting. When I looked it up online, I found out that some Egyptian artifacts have been found in the caves of the Grand Canyon.

“…Historian and linguist Carl Hart, editor of World Explorer, obtained a hiker’s map of the Grand Canyon from a bookstore in Chicago. Poring over the map, we were amazed to see that much of the area of the north side of the canyon had Egyptian names. For example, the area around Ninety-Four Mile Creek and Trinity Creek had areas with names like Tower of Set, Tower of Ra, Horus Temple, Osiris Temple and Isis Temple. In the Haunted Canyon area are such names as the Cheops Pyramid, the Buddha Cloister, Buddha Temple, Manu Temple and Shiva Temple…"

“Interestingly, the area of the canyon where the Egyptian names are located is an area off limits. It’s a forbidden zone. No one is allowed to enter it and explore it. The great question is why? Why is it off limits? Is it because the mysterious vaults and ancient Egyptian artifacts are real? And they are located there? Even today, the mysterious area of the canyon is a restricted zone, off limits for hikers, explorers and even park personnel.”

This really opened my eyes to how much you really must see and experience things for yourself because you can discover unique things that are not widely published or not published at all.
