Stomach cramps in the land of smiles... Now it's got me too....

In Thailand, I am normally extremely careful when it comes to eating ice cubes, tap water and food. Unfortunately, this time it did hit me and I had to fight an acute stomach upset for the last five days. It reached its peak on Sunday morning, accompanied by severe stomach cramps. I hurried to the nearby pharmacy, which opened at 08:30.

There I explained my problem and the friendly pharmacist immediately knew what was wrong and how she could help me. She prescribed me "erfuzide" capsules and Buscopan for the stomach pain. I was also given 5 packs of "Oreda", which I was told to dissolve in water and drink. After about five days, my diarrhea seemed to improve, fortunately, because I didn't want to spend my entire vacation with stomach cramps and diarrhea.

I had a similar experience back in 2019 on my return trip from Bangkok and Koh Chang during the Steemfest here in Thailand. Back then, however, the stomach cramps were not as extreme as this time.

Have you had similar experiences? Can you give me any tips on the best foods to eat when you're struggling with stomach problems?

My daughter thinks I don't give her enough privacy.
At least that's what she wrote in her diary.

I have been there. Similar experience with bad water in Mexico. Took me 2 days to recover.

Sorry to hear that! Hope you are feeling better to enjoy the rest of the trip! 😊

Well I'm not exactly sure what you can have in Thailand when you're down with a bad tummy. I will usually take porridge or something less oily to soothe the stomach.

Thanks! I just took some medicine and drink a lot of water. Right now, after five days it's finally over. I read that porridge is great - i need to find some of that here.

So sorry for the late reply, been really busy over the weekends with the Christmas Celebrations!

Hope you managed to get yourself some porridge and is feeling much better already! 😊

No Doubt About That! 😅

No Problem... Got no Porridge yet, but it goes slowly better and better day by day.

Glad to hear that! 😇

Well, yes. Water and ice is always something to be careful of in foreign places. It is probably good that erfuzide is OTC in Thailand and the pharmacy probably is also aware of this sort of food poisoning among visitors. Hope you are recovering fast. Bland food is always the safe bet during such times - think banana, plain mashed potatoes, white rice, oatmeal (with water not milk).
