What Is A Digital Nomad – The New Trend Sweeping The Globe

in #travel7 years ago

A new breed of tech savvy traveler is among us. They are traveling the world and experiencing new cultures and exciting adventures. Who are they and how are they doing this seemingly impossible task of funding themselves as they travel.

Tim Ferris, the popular blogger and author wrote about the possibilities of this lifestyle in his amazing book, the four hour work week.

The four hour work week by Tim Ferriss

Tim suggested the idea that it is possible to travel the world while owning a small online business and using online tools and tricks like outsourcing, drop shipping and other business models to facilitate this.

Some nomads use sites like upwork to find jobs which they then work on or delegate the work to others. Yet others will use techniques for selling private label items on ebay or amazon.

Digital Nomads: How to Live, Work and Play Around the World

Popular destinations include Mexico, Thailand, Cuba and Vietnam.

Followers of this new way of living and working need access to some essentials to be able to operate. Firstly an internet connection is an absolute must. A decent lightweight laptop and assorted power adapters is also required. A mobile phone that can accept the sim cards from the various countries they travel is pretty much essential too.

Digital nomads may spend years in one place or may travel for weeks and then settle for a few months in one place before moving on again.

Differences in currency exchange rates can be taken advantage of as well as lower rents and grocery bills can be much cheaper too depending on destination. Many people find they can travel and work indefinitely as long as they observe visa regulations and of course they need to take heed of any tax laws from their country of origin.

It’s not all blue skies though and some intrepid explorers can find that this lifestyle is not for them and find themselves getting homesick or heading home to feel more grounded. Others find themselves unable to manage their workload or their business while moving around.

This trend does look like it could hold some interesting possibilities though and worthy of some investigation don’t you think?
