Travel challenge #23: Boyana waterfall

in #travel7 years ago

There is hardly a mountaineer from Sofia who did not visit this beautiful and popular place in Vitosha, so this article is for those who have not yet touched the magic of Boyana Falls.

It is situated on Boyana River, about 5 km. From the center of Boyana. With its 15m fall, it is the biggest waterfall in Vitosha. In clear weather in the spring it can be seen from the center of Sofia, from the National Palace of Culture.

In fact, the Boyana Waterfall is the largest waterfall in Vitosha. Its waters fall from 30 m high and in clear spring days can be spotted even from the center of Sofia ... If you know where to look :)

The path is clear, well marked and we did not worry about going down at sunset. And the sun was very beautiful, passing its rays through the branches.

By the way, the trees had fallen leaves, but it did not mean you did not need to wear a camera. The trail was very seductive among trees and rocks, all covered with a carpet of dry leaves. Just wish you could cling to them.

Other small details also found their place in front of my lens.

There are several, relatively easy paths to it. Hundreds of tourists, lovers of nature, children, pregnant women pass by them weekly.

The waterfall is most easily accessible from Kopitoto, where it reaches an asphalt road. Depending on the tempo, the walk in nature lasts about an hour-and-a-half hours, with most of the trail being equal. More difficult is only the last stretch that leads to the waterfall - uneven, rocky terrain that descends steeply to the waterfall on top. You can walk away from the path that climbs up against the TV Tower or from the pathway to the right of the hotel complex. From both places, it runs through a thick forest. Observe the signs as the path is branched at several places. The other way to reach the waterfall goes along the valley of the river from Boyana and is longer but lighter. The distance traveled is between 4.5 and 5 km. On the northern slope of Vitosha Mountain. The waterfall is reached in just over an hour and a half, passing along Boyan Lake and a cascade of smaller waterfalls.

The Boyana waterfall is an extremely popular object for ice climbing among the mountaineers in the capital. It usually freezes in two iced tongues. Easier and slanting is left, and right offers climbing of medium difficulty. There are 8 routes. Between the tongues you can practice dry-tooling and climbing over oversized ice pendants.

From here you can easily reach another popular site of Vitosha - Golden Bridges. The stone river is located in the north-western slopes of the mountain at an altitude of 1350 - 1500 m. The seas are not formed by the glacial processes, but by the weathering and the denudation of the Vitosha monocyte. Thus the huge stone blocks filled the bed of the Vladaya River, which is deeply underneath. The name of the site comes from the golden mosses that covered the seas.
