ShoreParty Episode 1: The cure for boredom

in #travel7 years ago

It's 9:15am Monday and you're sitting at your desk wishing you did something awesome over the weekend. Instead you blew it binge watching, “Game of Thrones” on Netflix. Of course that's not your usual routine, but lately you find yourself getting bored with the local club scene.

You can't stomach another night of $300 bar tabs, long lines, and the same faces with the same pickup lines. Well there's a solution, go to Cabarete, Dominican Republic! Sounds too expensive? Not at all if you do it the right way.

I'm not talking about spending a fortune staying at resorts. There are many nice boutique hotels as cheap as $30 a night. I've stayed in an all inclusive resort for a cheap as $55 a night. (Cabarete, Ocean Manor Beach Resort)

If you want to stay much longer than a week or a weekend, there are many fully furnished 1 bedroom and studio apartments available for around $400 a month within walking distance to the beach. There are some cheaper, but you would be further from the city and would need some form of transportation.

Getting There:
First you need to find the cheapest flight possible. (I'll show you some ways to do that later) I've flown here for as cheap as $110 on AeroMexico from Orlando (MCO).

The closest airport is Puerto Plata (POP). It's about 30 minutes away. You can fly into Santo Domingo (SDQ) and it's much cheaper, but be prepared for a LONG 5 hour bus ride on Caribe Tours. It will cost you about $35 for a taxi to the bus station and $9 for a bus ticket. I've done that ride a few times, and I'll be the first to tell you it sucks! The bus is comfortable, much like a Disney tour bus, but the roads are bad and there are frequent traffic jams.

It's not that difficult to get here, and once you do, you will be amazed how cheap it is to have the time of your life. Eat, drink, and be merry!
