Preparing my Worldtrip - Vaccines sorted!

in #travel6 years ago

Last week I was freaking out over the vaccines. Well, I am happy to say that I got it sorted!

Yesterday, I went to the GGD, which is the Dutch Public Health Service of Amsterdam and got a consult as well as my first three(!!!) vaccinations. Yesterday, I felt blegh and couldn't raise my arms much due to muscle pains. Also sleeping on your side isn't something recommended since you.keep.feeling.it.every.time.you.move.

Three shots in..

The lady started telling me about that I am quite late (jeesh, like I didn't know that) and therefore couldn't give me all the recommended vaccines. This is where I told her that I already had contact with the CM Mediclinic in Chiang Mai, Thailand to receive the vaccines which I wouldn't be able to get here due to the time. She seemed pleasantly surprised and was happy to tell me that she wanted to give me the following vaccines:

  • Rabies;
  • Hepatitis A;
  • Hepatitis B;
  • DTP (a mixed vaccine for diphtheria, tetanus and polio).

Then why do I need to go back? Rabies consists of three vaccines over a course of three weeks. On day 0, day 7 and day 21 there will be a fancy needle stabbing you. Also I got a combination vaccine for Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B, which requires at least two vaccines aswell.

..€ 200,- out

The fun thing is that you need to pay everything in advance. The Dutch Healthcare is somehow not connected and doesn't cover it directly. I will need to get the paid money back myself from my Health Insurance (if they cover it at all). So be prepared.

However, the € 200,- was only for this round. I am guessing I will have to give them at least another € 100,- for the rest. I will just curl up in a corner and die for the time being.

Thank you for listening to my occassional freakouts, by the way.

Interesting post

Good decision to take the vaccines regardless of your emotional resistance ;) The alternative cost of actually getting one of those diseases both emotionally and physically is way to high than to taking the risk. Travelling a lot myself I always make sure to take precautions and live the "safety first" maxim!

Are you from AMS? Been there around 20 times for different festivals although I'm from Sweden haha, mostly for festivals (maybe you know Defqon.1, Qlimax etc?)

Otherwise, if you're into travelling, vlogs, self-development etc feel free to check out my channel, in any case keep up the good work and I'll see you around!

That's true! The only issue would've been the time. I'd already be in Thailand to finish all the vaccines, but I am happy I was able to make an appointment with a medical clinic over there to finish them there instead!

Yes, I am from Amsterdam. Definitely heard of Defqon, but not my type of music, hehe. Where are you from in Sweden?

Sounds good!

Yeah the music is a bit special to say the least. I'm from Stockholm, so pretty smooth hopping on a flight to ams, will visit next time the third of feb :)

Cool! That's pretty soon actually, next month!

Damn that's a lot of vaccination.. I love how you have the hashtag #thuglife though haha makes me laugh 😝

This week was three, next week one and then in Thailand two more. Yikes!

Heheh, yeah! Such bandaids always remind me of that rapper Nelly actually. Found myself quite badass.

Man, I am really envious/anxious for you. I could never do that...I'll follow your adventure!!!

Not a needle-man? Me neither, I specifically did not want to look... Yikes!

well at least you are doing the right thing. some level of protection. super smart, you are gonna have such a blast and i can't wait for your posts coming up, so much exploring and self expression, you are really going to find another side of you! yay!

Really curious to see what other side of me I will find, hehe. Thank you for your support. I can't wait for my posts either :D

i always find the unknowns in all the strangest places. kinda weird, like i was meant to be there to receive the information or something. happened to me a few times in life that way! :)

Guess it's a blast chilling with you as you never know where you'll end up?!

that's pretty much how it works yeah ;) lol.

Ouch!!! I am sooooooo scared of needles 😬

I just really didn't want to look at it. It gives me the chills!
