The Zagreb Cathedral

in #travel2 years ago (edited)

The Zagreb Cathedral is a Roman Catholic church located in -of course- Zagreb, Croatia. The cathedral standing today is not the first one. The first cathedral was built in 1217 and then was destroyed by the Mongols in 1242. The Bishop of that time, Timothy rebuilt a new church a few years later. Fortification walls were built around the church during the 15th century when the Ottomans invaded. You may be able to catch a glimpse of what is left of the walls in my picture.

A 6.3 earthquake hit Zagreb in 1880 which severely damaged the cathedral. The main central part of the church collapsed and the tower was so damaged it couldn't be repaired. The restoration/reconstruction of the church in the Neo-Gothic style you see today was done by architect Hermann Bolle.

Another massive earthquake (5.3 magnitude) damaged the church in March of 2020 . The tip of the spire at the south end of the church broke off and crashed onto the roof of Archbishop's Palace. The earthquake caused the northern spire to lean so, it was removed on April 17th.

Zagreb had a mixture of great architecture and some not-so-great architecture. This cathedral definitely landed under 'great architecture'. It was a cool find while exploring the Upper Town of Zagreb.

1 photo and 100 words copy pasted from Wikipedia? 50usd? Seriously?

What are you talking about? Nothing is copy pasted and I have cited where the info is from.

Not copy and pasted and how about instead of pointlessly complaining, YOU travel to the other side of the world in a time where it's almost impossible to do so and take pictures of historical places for original Hive posts. Naw, instead you're going to just sit there and complain.
Nice downvote mafia you have here. I'll keep that in mind.

So you're going to post 1 picture at a time with a bit of rehashed Wikipedia fact? Awesome quality Josh, but then again, all you've ever been here is a parasite.

Keep downvoting me, I have a face that gives no fucks ....for someone who endlessly bangs on about 'freedom', you've soon become pissed off when others exercise their free will!

What a Muppet.

Was that an attempted argument? Because unless you have pebbles in your brain, nothing you said makes sense.
I brought the vast majority over initially to Steemit and then later to Hive. If helping to grow the platform enormously is being a parasite, I'll take that as a compliment.

My girlfriend posted photos she took on the other side of the world while traveling and wrote about it. Then you came over here and acted like a moron. You send people to downvote her. I go look at your trash posts and downvote you in return. That isn't me not supporting people exercising their free will. That's me exercising MY free will. Moron.
I'd love to see you say this bullshit to my face by the way. Please come on down to Mexico.

A tip for you. If you put all these photos you had in previous and following posts and text into 1 post, you will 100% not get downvoted and might even top trending for a while.

Thank you lordbutterfly, I appreciate the feedback!
