RE: You Can Buy THIS in Mexico?

in #travel6 years ago

Both of us have experienced both sides of the coin @gustavomonraz. It's disheartening to see poverty anywhere in the world. Not sure if you watched until the end of the video, but we both mentioned how this mall is super ritzy for our preferences. Neither of us have lots of money, nor do we choose to spend it on expensive brands like at Andares. I (Maddie) prefer to buy from thrift stores and from clearance racks. Or, now that we're in Mexico, from local, hard-working vendors.

Why are you saying we're "way too gringo?"

We're going to respectfully disagree with you on this. Making comparisons in life is simply human. Whether you're comparing apples to bananas or the US to Mexico. It's how humans make sense of the world. We're doing our best to paint Mexico in the best light possible by showing others (especially from the United States) why it's not a bad place. There are similarities in the cultures, food, people, etc. and there are a lot of great differences. That being said, it's pretty disheartening to get feedback like this that we "look gringo" because it's a gross overgeneralization.
