today I’m glad to present you a medieval and traditional celebration.
In my beautiful home town, Bretten, the beloved „Peter und Paul Fest“ is coming up; the weather forecast doesn’t give us good news for the weekend, but this doesn’t affect our passionate expectations.
The celebrations take place always on the first weekend after the catholic holiday of St. Peter and Paul (29th of June), that’s the reason why people from Bretten keep free the last weekend of June or the first of July.
On Saturday afternoon you can enjoy a re-enactment of the battle of 1504 a.d., then you can see the fireworks at night. On Sunday there will be a parade through the city center‘s streets and on Monday, besides the Schwartenmagenumzug (another historical parade) and a party for children, you can enjoy a lot of spontaneus racket.
What makes this celebration really special is that you have the chance to see and feel how the medieval life was, enjoying folk dances and all the stuffs prepared by more than 3000 volunteer inhabitants of Bretten.
This is one of the most important celebration of the South Germany and this year takes place its 513th anniversary.
So, if you are in the vicinity of Bretten this weekend, you’re invited to enjoy us and you will be fascinated by this authentical medieval celebration.

heute möchte ich Euch ein tolles mittelalterliches und sehr traditionsreiches Fest vorstellen.
In meiner schönen Heimatstadt Bretten herrscht ab heute bis einschließlich Montag wieder Ausnahmezustand. Unser geliebtes Peter und Paul Fest steht vor der Tür und kann beginnen, nur die Wettervorhersage spielt leider noch nicht so mit, aber unserer Vorfreude tut dies keinen Abbruch.
Das Fest findet immer am ersten Wochenende nach dem kirchlichen Feiertag Peter und Paul (29. Juni) statt, daher muss man sich als Brettener das letzte Juni Wochenende oder erste Juli Wochenende immer freihalten.
Am Samstagnachmittag findet am Simmelturm eine nachgestellte Schlacht statt, am Samstagabend ein tolles Feuerwerk, am Sonntag wird der historische Festzug durch die Brettener Innenstadt zelebriert und Montag gibt es neben dem Schwartenmagenumzug und dem Kinderfest viele weitere Attraktionen zu erleben.
Besondere Attraktionen sind, die Möglichkeit zu haben hautnah dabei zu sein, sei es bei mittelalterlichen Volkstänze oder das Leben im Mittelalter von über 3000 ehrenamtlichen Bürgern vorgelebt zu bekommen.
Unser Fest entwickelte sich zu einem der bedeutendsten süddeutschen Heimatfeste und wird dieses Jahr zum 513-mal gefeiert.
Also - wer in der Nähe ist und Lust hat ist herzlich eingeladen vorbeizuschauen und sich selbst von diesem authentischen mittelalterlichen Fest zu überzeugen.

Das hört sich ja toll an. Leider lebe ich zu weit entfernt und kann daher nicht vorbeischauen. Viel Spaß beim Fest.
