People can kind of ruin stuff

in #travel8 years ago (edited)

When I end up packing a bag and heading out the door for some sort of new adventure I tend to visit places that are not usually considered a popular Tourism place. It is not that I do not like people - people are great, I like people. However, I do work in the tourism industry and spend most of my days interacting with numerous people from a variety of backgrounds, which I enjoy getting to know. When I have time off though I look to head to areas that are quiet and remote surrounded by nature.

Side-Note: I am always up for advice for travel destinations... hint, hint, Steemit!

I did visit my sister a few weeks ago, whom lives in Melbourne and she very much wanted to drive the Great Ocean Road. Now I need to mention it was fun and I love to spend time with my sister. However, the Great Ocean road is one of the most popular ocean drives in the world and as a result there tends to be a heap of people wanting to experience this beautiful drive. When I am on a break though and recharging from work I honestly prefer to be around not many people... Just saying

Hence the photo below. At one of the view points an unsuspecting Wallaby found herself next to a path and was noticed by a few people and within 3 minutes there was a crowd of people circling around the animal and all starting to move closer and closer. I didn't take any photos and simply left the people and the animal to themselves because as I did the number of people there doubled. I honestly wasn't a big fan of the situation and it felt unnatural. Perhaps I am just too spoilt with my line of work and spending so much time with these animals in the wild throughout my childhood... What do you think Steemit? Would you stay and take photos of the animal in that situation or leave hoping for another chance?

I wonder how they would feel if the situation were reversed and they found themselves the center of attention to any group of wild animals. Wildlife is better appreciated from afar .

agreed. some people tend to forget that simply fact.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for checking it out

People are the worst sometimes. lol.

sometimes for sure

i must say that you should visit nepal once in your life and i am 100% sure that it will be best destination for you and your trip will be an unforgetable one.....

best wishes

Thanks! that is definitely on the list for me to visit sometime soon

Agree with you 100% about too many people.

Was on working holiday in Tasmania for a while. Farmer a few roads over was shooting wallabies in the backyard and selling us steaks. Given how many wallabies we ate I can't say much about these people.

haha. That sounds like country Tassie. It is a beautiful part of Australia and the world to be honest. I am assuming you enjoyed Wallaby then?

Loved it, that and meat pies.

Thanks @thomasjmitchell for sharing your story. One can be lost in a crowded room or place with so many people. Finding solitude place for peace isn't a bad thing at all. It is for most of the time a good place for recharging one's energy to regain one's functionality in life.

Thanks for taking the time to read it & comment! I have found I need time to myself and especially in nature to recharge and be grounded once again. People can be draining after a while and finding that place for peace is much needed. Thanks for your comment - it really made my day

You are welcome. And thanks as well for responding to my comment on your post. Enjoy your day.

I feel the same, there are so many people in the World!! We love exploring places but tend to stay away from the popular spots if we can, I think in this case I would have definitely moved on and not taken any shots! Poor little Wallaby! This is why I tend to go to Scotland quite a lot as you can go and have beaches to yourself most of the time!

Scotland is on my list - actually every place I haven't been yet is on the list. I see taking photos as capturing a moment. to me standing next to a heap of people all focusing on one wild animal just wasn't a moment to me worth capturing and being reminded of when I look at it. Hence I jus took a snap of the people rather than the Wallaby

Haha! No exactly, that's what I think to! I think sometimes taking a photo of the whole scene is so much more effective, when we were shooting a wedding once there were 5 videographers and us trying to get the same shot so I just included all of them in the shot to make a point and it worked out great haha!

He must be scared when all those cameras are on him.

She did start to move into the bush shortly after this photo.

Hola @thomasjmitchell
JAJAJAJAJAJA
It seems that for you people were the center of attraction.
The wallaby was not your goal.
Thank you.

yeah, people are too loud and were in a very rushed/overly excited behaviour, which for me was too much to be near

Oh wow, I probably would've done what you did and just taken a quick snap from afar to then comment on the situation. I wouldn't want to risk further traumatizing the wallaby (or the joey) but I wouldn't wanna entirely miss the snap either. Though, do you think there's any chance they are accustomed to humans by now and therefore no longer scared? I mean, if he didn't like the attention, wouldn't he run away? :P Maybe she wanted a new photo for Instagram!
