Hello Steemians! It's not a nice place that I'm showing you this time, but I think it's especially important in today's world that we keep making ourselves aware of what can happen when fear and hatred prevail over understanding and humanity. I am convinced that there must be room for that also on Steemit and therefore I don't want to withhold this sad travel experience from you.
Hallo Steemianer! Es ist kein schöner Ort, den ich euch diesmal zeige, aber ich finde es gerade in unserer heutigen Zeit wichtig, dass wir uns immer wieder aufs Neue bewusst machen und vor Augen führen, was passieren kann, wenn man Angst und Hass über Vernunft und Menschlichkeit siegen lässt. Ich bin davon überzeugt, dass dafür auch auf Steemit Platz sein muss und möchte euch deshalb diese traurige Reiseerfahrung nicht vorenthalten.

While I would like to give you mostly positive emotions with my photos, this time I have kept the pictures completely in shades of grey and even added some noise. They are meant to convey the desolation and despair that this place radiates.
Während ich euch mit meinen Fotos sonst meist positive Emotionen vermitteln möchte, habe ich die Aufnahmen diesmal komplett in Grautönen gehalten und sogar noch ein Rauschen hinzugefügt. Sie sollen die Trostlosigkeit und Verzweiflung vermitteln, die dieser Ort ausstrahlt.
I can only recommend everyone to visit the two concentration camps that belong to the UNESCO World Heritage List. A good option would be to visit the Polish metropolis, Krakow and make a day trip from there.
Ich kann nur jedem empfehlen, die beiden, zum UNESCO Weltkulturerbe gehörenden Konzentrationslager, zu besuchen. Am besten macht ihr einen Tagesausflug im Rahmen eines Städtetrips in die polnische Metropole Kraukau.
Visiting Auschwitz on a wonderfully warm and sunny spring day makes you think: How can it be that the sun shines on this place? That flowers grow and birds sing here? Auschwitz shocks, touches and makes you think, but your visit can't enable you to understand how human beings could do all these things to other human beings.
Auschwitz an einen herrlich sonnigen und warmen Frühlingstag zu besuchen, bringt einem zum Nachdenken: Wie kann es sein, dass auf diesen Ort die Sonne scheint? Dass hier Blumen wachsen und Vögel singen? Auschwitz schockiert, berührt und bringt euch zum Nachdenken, aber euer Besuch kann euch nicht dazu befähigen, zu begreifen, wie Menschen anderen Menschen all diese Dinge antun konnten.

You should also show them in colour. When we put things in black and white we think "OLD" never could happen today. When they are in colour we realize this was only 73 years ago and the people who went through this are still alive today!
I was thinking a lot about posting them in colour, tried different styles, but in the end I came to the conclusion that these greytones convey the sadness the best. But I understand your argument and it's so true, it's important that people don't think that this could never happen again!
Wonderful history post @travelshots. I recently watch Hitler's circle of evil on Netflix and can relate to the feeling of what your photos convey in this article. Another movie that reminds me of this is "schindler's list" which is an awesome movie of all time.

Ich schaue weder "immer", noch "nur" auf Auschwitz und die Nazis, ich bin Travel Blogger und teile meine Reiseerfahrungen. Habe auch schon von anderen furchtbaren Orten berichtet (z.B. über Tuol Sleng in meinem Bericht über Phnom Penh), da ich Massenmord natürlich generell verurteile! Welchem Volk die Menschen die es durchführten, angehörten, sollte bei der Bewertung eines solchen Verbrechens eigentlich keine Rolle spielen!
In Ausschwitz war ich noch nicht , dafür in dem etwas kleineren Lager in Dachau ... Ich konnte den ganzen Tag nichts mehr essen ... Bei den Aussagen von AfD Wählern & Co, die man bei Twitter, Facebook etc. liest , sollte es meiner Meinung nach zum Lehrplan gehören ein KZ zu besuchen.
Ja, finde ich auch, dass das ein fixer Bestandteil in der Schulzeit sein sollte, vor Allem da selbst die Großeltern der heutigen Kinder mittlerweile diese Zeit nicht mehr miterlebt haben. Zu meiner Kindheit haben einem noch die älteren Menschen von den Schrecken des Krieges erzählt, das ist nun leider nicht mehr möglich.
Ja das ist wahr. Von meinem Opa habe ich sehr viel über diese Zeit erfahren, aber meine Kinder können es nur mehr über Umwege erfahren...
Gänsehaut pur. Deine Aufnahmen und Worte treffen es gut. Ich selber war vor einpaar Jahren auch in Polen und habe mir unteranderem die KZ`s angesehen. Kaum ist man durch das Tor gegangen hatte man ein ungutes Gefühl, war nachdenklich und unglücklich gestimmt. Man soll sich im klaren werden, was in der Vergangenheit falsch gelaufen ist und nicht wiederholt werden soll. Aber was Geschichte ansich angeht finde ich es schade, dass in Deutschland oft der 2.Weltkrieg sehr detalliert behandelt wird und andere Ereignisse, die auch wichtig gewesen sind kaum oder garnicht..

Hmm, ich weiß nicht wie es in Deutschland ist, bei mir damals in Österreich in der Oberstufe wurde das Thema meiner Ansicht nach, nicht zu detailliert behandelt. Aber ich bin da vielleicht auch nicht sehr objektiv, da mich diese Zeit im Geschichtsunterricht am meisten interessiert hat.

Great post @travelshots. I think you've managed to show us around while capturing the sadness of the place beautifully. I have been here as well, and it is a very sobering experience. You are right with your words, all the atrocities that occurred here happened when the sun was shining and the birds were singing and people outside of the camp went about their business. This post does a good job of making you reflect on the dark side of humanity and wonder how we can let this kind of thing happen.

Meiner Meinung nach könnte man die scheiße auch einfach nieder reißen. So wie alle Waffenfabriken auf diesem Planeten. Es bringt niemandem etwas, diesen Schandfleck der Geschichte stehen zu lassen.
Ich konzentriere mich gerne auf die positiven Aspekte im Leben.
Und Nazis gibt's heutzutage trotzdem noch, obwohl wir Mahnmale noch und nöcher haben.
Doch, tut es!
Es ist existierender Beweis für eines der größten Verbrechen der Menschheitsgeschichte und sollte alleine als Mahnmal so gut es geht erhalten bleiben.
Wir waren z.B. während der Schulzeit in Mauthausen - Das prägt einen schon sehr und regt zum Nachdenken an - in einer sinnvollen Weise!
sehr gut, ein thema wo ich dir zu stimm zu 1000 prozent zu! altes wissen hat an nächste generationen als wissen stehen zu bleiben! es ist es schon zu viel zerstört worden. man kan schwer etwas nachvollziehen. @theaustrianguy danke für deinen kommentar!
Danke für deine Meinung dazu! Alle Waffenfabriken niederreißen - da bin ich ganz bei dir! Und ich konzentriere mich auch gern auf das Positive, aber finde solche Orte trotzdem extrem wichtig. Die Nazis selbst haben viele Vernichtungslager niedergerissen, um ihre Spuren zu beseitigen und selbst heute gibt es noch Anhänger von Holocaustleugnern. Deshalb ist es ganz wichtig, dass so viele Beweise wie möglich erhalten bleiben, um sämtlichen Verschwörungstheoretikern den Wind aus den Segeln zu nehmen. Und klar gibt's noch Nazis, aber ohne diese permamente Aufklärung würde es wohl heute noch wesentlich mehr geben, denke ich.

Aber ohne Mahnmale hätten wir mehr.

As an Israeli I know too well how important is to keep the holocaust in the memory of the nations. I have been in
Auschwitz four years ago and no photo can deliver the heavy dark mask that covers the place. 😒

Yes, I was inside one of the gas chambers in Auschwitz, words can't describe that feeling, it's so important that some of these places still exist today!

I'd like to go there one day, especially because I'm polish. I think actually going to where it all happened will give me a better connection to all the suffering and chaos. I've been to many holocaust museums, but Its just a cage of items far away from its origin. Going there would be the ultimate reality check and help put things in perspective.

A few years ago I watched some youtubes by a jewish kid who was making a documentary about holocaust denial, and he was finding himself on the side of the denier. One of the points he made involved the door in your 12th image - evidence that this is in fact the original door, and noticing that it had a window, and a handle on the inside.
I know about holocaust denial, but fortunately there is more than enough evidence that it happened!
Just admiring your shot of the door. I never got a proper look at it in his grainy video.
Sounds about right. Doors and handles and windows and lizard-people are about all the intellectual weapons the anti-history Holocaust Denying Socialists have in their arsenal.

Even if it is definetely a sad location it is one of those location very educative the purpose of travelling to this location it should be educative nothing else I have been once I think it should be enough and I always remind the educative quotation in one of the room into the museum: The ones who forget the history are bound to live through it again. viele haben gesagt dass etwas sehr schweres in der Luft liegt. Ich glaube es ist wirklich so, dass diese Negative noch von Damals noch dort ist. Es ist wie ein Schlachthaus. Auch wenn keine Tiere mehr drin sind, trotzdem versprürt man nicht gerade dort eine Feier zu machen...
Ja genau und es ist eben so ein komisches Gefühl, an einem sonnig warmen Frühligstag dort zu sein, weil das einfach überhaupt nicht dazu passt, wenn man sich das Leid und Elend, das es dort gegeben hat, zu so einem herrlichen Wetter vorstellt...

I once went to Dachau and I totally get what you’re saying about the contrast. For me too it was a beautiful sunny day and it made think even more about all the suffering that had been consumed there. No need to post the pictures in color. I actually think it makes much more sense in b/w. Thank you for sharing.

Chilling photos with a chilling atmosphere. They totally got me. I can feel the coldness and imagine suffering. You did a great thing creating this kind of remembrance. It is important to show to future generations what hatred does to real people just because they are different in some way. I read a book by Viktor Frankl who experienced life in a concetracion camp and your photos describe his words very well. Thank you.

Ye a was there a few years back is a strange place to be realized that someone could find something like that. Everybody should go there one time just to see. good that you did it in black white is more Feels more real then.

This is such an important post. I remember being so confused by the beauty of the place. I visited on an autumn afternoon and the colours were stunning. It seemed horribly wrong to see beauty there. Many people on the group reported the same thing. The tour of course reminded us of the horror of what happened there. Seeing Auschwitz changed something in me permanently.
I went to Budapest afterwards and got into a lift with the place very much still on my mind and saw a sign that said 'Everything happens for a reason' with a huge smiley face. I laughed out loud. What possible reason could that cliche offer for Auschwitz? It is beyond reason.
