Cool pictures from our hiking tour in Ötztal, Tirol (Austria)

in #travel8 years ago (edited)

Hi,

Recently we were in the Ötztal in Tirol to hike and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Here are some pictures to increase your appetite for Austria :)

The rare and protected Edelweiß! You are not allowed to pick it, according to traditional belief it protects it's holder.

One of our first ascends. Not particularly exhausting, but the weather was perfect and once you got to these rocks you actually had the climb a bit a long an installed metall rail.

Interesting stone formations that some hikers built. I think this was on the border to Italy if I remember correctly.

The foot of a glacier we encountered on our way to top of the 'Wildes Mannle', which translates to 'wild (small) man' :) This was actually far tougher than we expected and also one of the most unusual montain tops I have been too. It consists just of loose rocks that lie around and you have to be really careful to watch your steps.

A 'bridge' (it was just a very thin aluminum sheet) over the river that sprang directly out of the melting glacier. I drank a lot of the water, it tasted weird but also very fresh (though it was probably very old :D)

Here is a nice grassy range. I can't remember anymore where we took this exactly but you can still see a little snow in the background.

A fascinating and tough flower that manages to live in a rock wall. Would be a good image for an inspirational quote :D

This was the most crowded mountain top cross I have ever encountered. You could ride a cable car almost to the top so there were very many lazy tourists to take some pictures

Had some fun at Area47 which is an action waterpark at the start of the Ötztal.

For the end some more Edelweiß! Ok I admit it, we didn't find this in the wild, it was growing in a pot next to a house there :D

Thanks for taking a look, hope I could motivate you for some hiking!
