Travel Pro Adventure #4: Lost in Railey Peninsula Thailand! Part Three ( 31 photos)

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Welcome back my Steemit friends! So far during our adventure we've taken the Thai Long Tail Speed Boat from Krabi Town to the beaches of Railey Peninsula, explored an incredible cave, trekked through the jungle, and discovered the hippy town of Tonsai. We made friends with some very unique people including Eric from California who has offered to give us a tour of the town. So let's check it out!

The entire hippy village is made up of buildings like this one. There is very little information about this place on the internet. It's a word of mouth location and a throw back to when travelers first started visiting Thailand back in the 70s and 80s. There is certainly no police presence and people are left free to do whatever they want, that includes plenty of marijuana, mushrooms, and free love!

Here is Eric and I, he's been staying here for over a week, and is showing us around. He has a month to himself before he has to go back to California and start his new job as an IT guy. He's been bombed out on mushrooms and ganja since he got here. Surprisingly he's still very with it and well spoken. This kind of thing is not for me, but we are certainly enjoying the tour and his company.

By the looks of things, seems like hanging out is what people do best here! Eric leads us back to his hostel. He has to pay $15 for a few more nights and leave a hand written note at the front desk for a friend that is staying here too. There is no cell phone service or internet in this town; so put your electronics away and let's take a step back in time!

The homes and structures in Tansai are 95% comprised of bamboo and drift wood! At least it seems that way. There is certainly no air conditioning here, so bring your mosquito net and prepare yourself for a whole other accommodation experience. You can probably get a hammock to sleep in for free by just offering a smile and a hug. Cold shower anyone?

Eric is staying at a pretty interesting place! Heck this entire town is a real trip! And if you find yourself getting bored you can always get high and play with fire! We soon start to make our way down to the beach.

We pass a bar, a restaurant, and stop at the rock climbing base camp. Eric wanted to check out the schedule and prices. Besides the gorgeous beaches and great weather; people from all around come to Railey Peninsula to rock climb the vertical limestone cliffs, and we'll see more of that later on! It's now about 11:30. Let's get going Eric!

The path down to the beach is lined with dozens of murals! The quality of the art work is really impressive. We take our time and check them out one by one. Suddenly we feel like we're in an art museum, but we are still in the jungle, this little snake hanging on the wall makes sure to let us know! (keep a look out for a Steemit "Art of Tonsai Series!") We get our first glimpse of the beach as we turn around a corner and start to head down hill.

Wow! This is one spectacular and pristine beach! It takes our breath away and we just stand there and take in our beautiful surroundings. We say goodby to Eric as he had plans to hop a Thai Long Tail Boat a few kilometers north to the main town of Au Nang. We have plans to get lost in the jungle! Trust me it does happen! Thank you my fellow Steemit friends for coming along on this exciting adventure in Railey Peninsula, Thailand! Until next time - Dan "World Travel Pro!"

Hah, isn't Thailand and drugs a bad combination? Or maybe in a place so isolated it's not big of a problem right? I was never taking drugs during my stay in Thailand, but I have heard some nasty stories like guys going to jail for a few grams of weed, cops busting doors when some local tipped them about a guy that could have drugs. What I love about Thailand is that I feel the freedom there. People despite being poor compared to us from Western societies know how to enjoy the simple things in life more. I guess, it's that once you throw too much stuff at somebody, he is just getting confused and don't know how to deal with all of it, forgetting how important those other things were, that he had on him before.

The place is interesting to visit, I've been to sabang. But have not gone to this charming place.

Very interesting indeed. Thank you for stopping by!
