New cover photo.

And here I am back with another one of my Around and about series, for those of you who are longtime readers 😁 you will notice a few new things in the post. First I made a cover photo so my posts will get noticed, rebranding or something like that. Second, the Headline changed to Around and about in Dalmatia off the beaten path I noticed that most of you are not familiar with the spots I mention in my posts. That is why I changed the head. Rebranding once again.

For those of you tuning in for the first time, this is a travel blog so to say about Dalmatia, Croatia but I will cover the parts not known to most. The diamonds in the rough if you will. Please check out my older posts like part #4 where I cover the Krka national park and the rest of the series here.

If you like what you read please be kind resteem or follow, thank you in advance.

Dalmatian country side.

Afer we took on the Nečven fortress we made our way over to the other side of the river just about 4 kilometers from the fortress. The road took us over Brljan lake to the other side and after the steep road up the canyon, we stopped to take in the scenery. If you're by car you can get easily around just follow the signs by the road to the next waterfall on the river. To get close to the sightseeing spots you need to leave your car by the main road and continue on foot. On the way I suggest to take in the surroundings there are fantastic details you will notice. Like reminiscence from past times build and carved in rock and stone.

Remains of the Roman legion camp Burnum.

The Roman Legion camp Burnum lies just on the Krka river it was built here for strategic purposes to get easily by road to the north to Pannonia, and to use the river as a natural border to divide the pre-roman tribes living here. The building of the camp can be dated around the turn of the Millenium and from the year 42. the XI. roman legion Claudia pia fidelis was stationed here and was replaced by the IV. legion Flavia felix. The to arches on the photo are the remains of the Command building and just a few meter from her lies the amphitheater build for the legions entertainment.

Manojlovac waterfall and parts of the Krka river canyon

Just further down the main road about half a kilometer from Brljan lake. Behind the arches, one can find the path that leads to Manojlovac waterfall one of the most astonishing on the Krka river and an absolute must visit if you come by. Manojlovac waterfall is about 80 meters high and 500 meters long it is made out of several tuf barriers making it the highest of the seven waterfalls on the river. The canyon around the waterfall is covered with thick vegetation and lush meadows.

Just to explain tufa it is a deposit made out of calcium carbonate occurring in limestone areas but to be sure here is what Wikipedia says:

Tufa is a variety of limestone formed when carbonate minerals precipitate out of ambient temperature water. Tufa is sometimes referred to as travertine.

Manojlovac is special because of one man the emperor of the Austro-Hungarian empire Francis Joseph I. The emperor and his wife Empress Elisabeth also called Sisi visited three of the waterfalls in 1875. on their tour of the empire. To commemorate their visit a plauqe was installed on in 1899. the story goes that the emperor was greeted by the villagers with gunfire and a feast. He especially liked the roasted lamb and his wife the ice cream that was served.

View of Manojlovac waterfall and Brljan lake.

We visited the national park during winter time, but I am sure you can imagine the park during spring and summer when the surroundings are a beautiful deep green color. Making the sight even more appealing to visitors.

If you find your way to Croatia I recommend a visit to the national park Krka, but please don't be like the rest of the masses of tourists go and explore the parts off the beaten track. In my opinion, it will be a unique experience.

Bravo for your post @zija2022! There is everything I love about Croatia there, even the ruins of a Legion camp! <3 (nerd alert!) :-) May I suggesto to add a map of the region you explore, that would be very handy in your next posts to see exactly which zone you speak about! Steem on!

Thank you very much, I almost gave up on Steemit. I thought about that but have not found an adequate one to use. Google maps maybe? If you have any suggestions I am all ears please let me know. 😁

Yes, just use Google Maps, draw an itinerary on the map and take a screenshot, it's the easiest way and the one I used all the time :)

Manojlovac waterfall photo is amazing and what I mostly like!

Thank you, there is a path which takes you down to the waterfall there even some old watermills left. We did not go down, the path was to steep, no one had any hiking boots it was too dangerous.

I just can imagine it Without hiking boots it excessively risky to follow any steep path I agree with you.

That waterfall photos ... they make me want to fly my drone there. Beautiful pictures. We miss the Balkans!

Thank you. O yes, a drone would be perfect for some great photos :)

Hiya, just swinging by to let you know that this post made the Honorable mentions list in today's #TravelDigest!

WOW thank you for mention me I will check it out right away.

Oh It's been decades since my last visit to Krka park. Maybe it's time to pay it a visit again.

Thanks for reminding me! Tell me is it still allowed to swim at the bottom?

Yes, it is still allowed for now, but there is talk of frobbing it the future. There are too many people visiting and the management wants to dilute visitors from Skradinski buk.

that looks like a great place! thanks for sharing :D

You are welcome, glad you like this one :-)
