Travel at Home challenge

This challenge, by @psos asks us to Stay at Home and share 3 photos of our travels.

I am so grateful for the long ago travel opportunities that I had and all the wonderful memories that those adventures give me now!

This is a photo of the 14th century Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra in Sergiev Posad, northeast of Moscow. It's part of the Golden Ring cluster of ancient towns and I stayed there for a week with a wonderful family as part of a Friendship Exchange. Six months later they came to Wisconsin and stayed with me!

This was inside The National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. It is a famous national monument erected in memory of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek, former President of the Republic of China in Taipei, Taiwan. I was there for a few weeks learning about TCM-Traditional Chinese Medicine.

This photo was taken at ancient Olympia in the western
Peloponnese of Greece. This was the site of the first Olympic stadium. I visited there during a month long trip to Greece 20 years ago.

Incredible as usual Melinda! Who was the Friendship Exchange through and do they still do those?

Friendship Force of Wisconsin, and yes, I believe they are still doing exchanges.

That's so cool. I only knew about student exchanges before this.

It was a great program! A friend of mine did one to Korea and I always rather regretted not doing that one, too. The group travel part of the program turned me off. Too many Americans together in a large group, away from home, can get a bit ugly.

The Ugly American! lol...yes. Loud and obnoxious at times. I agree, I'm with you on that one. How's it gone today for you?

I had groceries delivered this morning and it seems to take me and my scooter all day to get them hauled from the garage to the house and put away.
The kids are coming from Chicago tomorrow... First visitors I have had since the middle of March and the first time they have gone out in almost that long, too.
Temps tonight down into the 20s. Who would have guessed that we could have a polar vortex in May.
Not good for the fruit trees.

Howdy Melinda! Sorry for the late reply. I didn't even get on Hive yesterday, the first time since I joined that I didn't even make it to check comments.

Visitors! yay! I'm so happy for you. Sounds like they need to get out too.

Hey that's crazy cold for May, that ain't supposed to happen.

Do they just put the groceries in front of the garage door and then you have to get them into the house? But you got more than normal to prepare for this visit right?

Hi @ melinda010100 , Have a nice day

Thanks! You too!

such a beautiful places you've seen in your life, Melinda!
I would like to see more of your China pics in the next rounds.

the Golden Ring cluster i've rather visited too... maybe less that week, maybe same -- but I was 9-10 y.o boy then, and remember almost nothing :P

I have so many lovely things from The Golden Ring. It was an amazing experience for me to go there.

I was only in Taipei and then Hong Kong and don't have a huge amount of photos. Most of my days there were spent in clinics and hospitals and classrooms, not so many tourist things.

ah... well, you cant have all, I understand... photos was not a priority back than. i suspect, Hong-Kong could took ages, in terms of taking pics!

I have picked your post for my daily hive voting initiative, Keep it up and Hive On!!

It's always a pleasure to see you come to one of my posts! Thank you so much!

What did the family think of Wisconsin? It's not really known for ancient architecture, but the landscape is sure different.

They spent some time in Chicago with the Exchange organizers and when they were here we did mostly day to day activities. We visited a grade school and they talked to the students and we went to the mall and had tea at my elderly aunts house. We went to Madison and visited the capitol building and they got their pictures taken with the governor. We met up with some of the other visiting Russians and their hosts in Galena and attended a dance with Civil War re-enactors. It was an incredible experience, and I feel awful that we have lost touch.

Wow - It sounds like they actually got to have some interesting experiences over here in the US, after all! I mean, aside from beer, cheese curds, and deer hunting ;-) Madison is a fun town, for sure, and I think Wisconsin has one of the nicest capital buildings I've seen.

Madison is the best, isn't it? I would have liked to move there when I retired, but was afraid my money would not stretch far enough. I'm happy now that I chose to live where I am.

From those places I've only visited Moscow... and I'd sure like to go there again! Too bad they complicate things so much with the darned Visa Requests and Approvals! 🙄

Nice shots!

My daughter in law emigrated to the US from Russia a few years ago. Talk about paperwork! I spent several days in both Moscow and St. Petersburg. I'd love to go back, too.

What about if I delegate something small from the little I have. Good going

That is very kind of you! Thanks!

Most welcome

First photo is awesome! 👏👏👏

Thanks so much!
