Epic Games spoke about the many possibilities of Unreal Engine 5 in an interview with the online magazine Edge. It was about future-proofing, Fortnite: Battle Royale's popularity and the excellent visual possibilities that come with the engine's fifth edition.

Epic Games stated in the interview that Fortnite: Battle Royale's popularity was primarily attributed to the launch of the Unreal Engine. The development studio has taken revenue from millions and reinvested it in the further development of Unreal Engine 4 and its various related resources. Yet Epic Games took one more thing out of Fortnite's success: Battle Royale. Future games will depend on online features more and more.

I believe that more and more games will go in this direction in the future and that even games that we think of as single-player will have so much content and variety in the future that parts of the experience of the game will be dynamically streamed in the background while you play and you will not even notice it, Epic Games explains in the interview.

This is something that they will also draw on with the Unreal Engine 5 in the future. In terms of visual quality, the fifth version of Unreal Engine 5 is not only groundbreaking. Various possibilities are also now integrated for the introduction of streaming and web services. This makes Unreal Engine 5 more focused on the future than ever before. But neither is the visual quality to be overlooked.

For Unreal Engine 5, Epic Games refers to the software demos already seen. While they admit that the release of certain elements on next-gen consoles would not be feasible, such demos offer insights into the future. "What we were able to show in the demo in terms of visual fidelity as well as the size of the game worlds created with UE5 will be the difference between what's possible today and what's possible tomorrow," Epic Games explains.
