The Box.

The Hive Name.png
Stubbs carried the box under one arm. His elbow inside the box clasping it to his side. Just a standard wooden box. Carrying items he was intent on disposing of. It contained one book, an empty book. Except for one page that read. "Become a carpenter". He was starting a new life and he getting rid of the old. He was on his way to Vegas.

The intention was to throw it off the end of the pier. More of a gesture, the box was one he sat on with a cushion to soften the seat, while listening to the neighbours radio. Instead he just left the box at the end of the pier. Then trailed back into the noise and lights of town.

Kicking pebbles as he walked with his head down. Danny wished he hadn't spent his allowance on Hive at Blocktrades. He had promised Jessica a brand new book, but! forgot about it when he got his allowance. He could get it back. But by the time it would not get to his account in time. How he thought if he asked God. What promise could he make.

If he only had a Genie. He would wish he had a book. Kicking pebbles wishing dreaming about Jessica. He kicked bottles stones and as he passed the box. Wished he had a book for Jessica and kicked the box at the same time. From under the box came a book. He had also kicked one of the board off the box.

An old couple turned to look at the box sliding on the pier. "I'm gunna fix that". Danny said pointing at the box.

Danny returned later that day with a couple of new pieces of wood. Some clips screws and some wood glue. A few friends at school had convinced him he should fix the box to avoid bad karma.
As he was fixing the box. He was joined by a red headed chap. "Mind if I paint your box Mr?"

Danny. "It's not my box. You can paint it if you like."

Danny fixed one side of the box, while Ginger painted the other. When Dany had finished the repairs he need to do. He asked Ginger. "Leave this side for a while before you paint it. Just so that the glue dries.

Ginger. "Will do Mr. I'll paint that side tomorrow then".

Ginger returned the next day with his paint to finish off the box. It was a nice shade of that colour you would like a box to be. He began painting. Varying the strokes of the brush and sometimes changing the brush to leave a different stroke in the paint. Subtle shadows cast themselves as the light reflected from the box.

Every few strokes of a brush he would step back and look at the box for a while. Returning to add a few more strokes.

"Excuse me young man". He was approached by an elderly couple. "Would you mind if we make use of your box? for my wife to sit a while? Then we will be on our way to the end of the pier."

Danny. "Sure, Sure. But sit that side cause there is a bit of wet paint on this side over here. He said pointing to left.

"It was a nice shade of that colour you would like a box to be" I lost it when I read this 🤣

A box for everyone, like a renewable giving tree. yes, yes, go ahead but mind the paint...

I like that, Box for everyone.

Not the thought I had when I began writing. But right on the button.
