Every town has that one story that quietly restores your faith in people.
In Pocatello, Idaho, the Video Stop was the last of its kind — a neighborhood movie rental shop that survived almost 30 years. Among its daily visitors was Christina Cavanaugh, a woman with Down Syndrome who stopped in every day for 15–20 years to rent a movie.
When the store finally had to close, Christina was heartbroken. Her routine wasn’t just habit — it was part of her rhythm, her comfort.
The owner, David Kraning, could have simply locked the door for good. Instead, he built “Christina’s Corner” — a small, fully stocked video section inside his nearby convenience store. Christina still comes in each afternoon, checks out a movie, and carries on her tradition exactly as before.
It’s a small act that cost him time and space, but it gave Christina continuity and joy. Her mother called it “a reprieve from anguish.” That’s humanity at its quiet best.
What’s a simple act of kindness in your community that still sticks with you?
