Minecolonies & Current State of the Mod

in #utopian-io8 years ago (edited)

Hey everyone,

Utopian had a bug and double posted, so I decided to edit this post here and write a bit about the current state of the Minecolonies mod.

I started working at the Minecolonies project around 4 years ago at the Minecraft version 1.6.4.
The project had been launched on top of the "Minecolonys" project which offered Minecolonys for 1.2.5.
Since the owner had abandoned the project we picked it up and wanted to port it to 1.6.4.
Unfortunately, a lot of things changed in the Minecraft mechanics during that time and we decided to drop all the code and start fresh on 1.7.2 only keeping the general concepts of colonies but rewriting the whole mod.

I had worked a bit on the 1.6.4 project but I started working strongly when we started working on 1.7.2.
At that time, the only workers we had were the builder and lumberjack and I worked on the Miner.

Fast forwarding 4 years to skip the Nostalgia and lose less of your time Minecolonies has now:

  • Builder
  • Lumberjack
  • Miner
  • Fisherman
  • Farmer
  • Animal Herders (Chicken, Cow, Pig, Sheep)
  • Cook
  • Smelter
  • Baker
  • Guards
  • Deliveryman

Additionally, we have an own protection system (For Multiplayer) which is completely configurable.
A complete request resolve system including crafting for up to 2x2 recipes.
A complete backend system for GUIs (Minecraft GUIs are the worst).
Fully implemented structure system to scan and build any structure or paste them.
ColonyManager which backs up colonies and saves them individually.
Our own Pathfinder optimized for server environments.

Nevertheless, that's not where we want to leave it.
We're currently working on a bunch of exciting 6 new workers.
Namely:

Blacksmith (tools, weapons, armour, or everything with ingot in it, have to check for that)

Sawmill (Anything including planks and logs, might've to check for some exceptions here in the recipes)

Stonemason (Mixture of smelter and sawmill, will smelt cobble to stone on demand and will craft any stone related stuff)

Crafter (Will craft certain special blocks, currently I have everything involving redstone, end and nether in mind)

Glassmaker (Yeah, he will make sand to glass and make glass panes and colored glass and stuff)

Weaver (All wool, string stuff)

And that's not all:

We want a composter worker (Composting biological material).
A florist (Using Compost to grow flowers).

And after we're finished with that we want to implement exciting pvp and pve modes like colony wars, etc.

So, if you know your way around Java and would be excited to work on our project, why don't you visit us on our discord: https://discord.gg/czj75M and contact me (Raycoms) I surely have quite some tasks to hand out!

Until then

Happy coding or playing!

Thanks, I edited my post so it's at least no double post.
(I didn't post it twice accidentially, utopian published it twice xD)
