Today's tutorial will be about how to search for a word and replace it in the Write program, and how to insert a special symbol or a character.
Search and replace words or sentences
The Writer program offers two ways to find and replace a word or a sentence inside a text document. The first method is to use the search toolbar, which can be prompt out using the following keyboard shortcut Ctrl + F, and the second method is to use the Find & Replace window Ctrl + H.
1- Using the Find toolbar
- You can find and replace any word in a text document using the search toolbar that can be accessed using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + F or through View> Toolbars> Find menu. The search toolbar will appear at the bottom of the program as shown below:

Then, type the word or the sentence you want to search for and press Enter to find it. If you get multiple results, press Enter again until you find the desired word or sentence. Then, click the magnifying glass icon to replace the word or the phrase found by a new one.
You can also use the UP and Down arrows to navigate through the text document to find your desired word or sentence. The Down Arrow is the Find Next option which searches for the next similar word that follows the active word, and the UP Arrow is the Find Previous option that searches for the similar precedent word that precedes the active word.
2- Using the Find & Replace dialog
- The Find & Replace dialog can be shown via the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + H or through the Edit> Find & Replace menu.

- You can click More Options to expand the window commands, or press Fewer Options to reduce it.

In the Search For box, type the text you want to find.
If you want to replace it (I mean to replace the text you searched for) with a different text. In the Replace With box, type the new text and click replace.
You can use other options to find your target text: matching whole words only, doing a search for similar words, or matching the case.
Inserting special characters
Special characters or symbols are those characters that can not be found in a standard English keyboard. For example, these symbols © ¾ æ ç ñ ö ø do not exist in the keyboard we normally use. Therefore,If you want to insert and use them, you will need to use the special characters table:

- To access the special character table go to Insert > Special Character. Then, Select the symbols you want to use, and then click insert.
