I both agree and disagree at the same time. While it is true the top witnesses should be technical if we want to ensure things work well.

However, witnesses also have some kind of political power on STEEM, choosing if a fork gets applied or not (I believe 70% of the top-20 needs to agree for a fork to take place), and technical people can be retarded in this aspect.

I am not a witness and I don't plan to be one, ever.

Sort:  

there are plenty of technical people on steemit who also have a brain for political stuff.
in one of your posts you could explain in detail how to setup an IPFS node and we'll see who's capable. then the community may decide to support some of the technically capable also depending on their reputation and political stances.
Non-technical witnesses should hire techies if they want to keep their spot. with the proliferation of projects on the steem blockchain technical knowledge is vital.
