Raging 'Sand Fire' casts apocalyptic glow over Los Angeles

A blood red sun, blazing through a massive, ominous cloud of smoke, hung above Los Angeles on Saturday, as ash rained down below.

No, it wasn't a sign of the apocalypse. It was the result of the "Sand Fire" that has consumed 22,000 acres near Santa Clarita, northeast of LA. The fire, which started on Friday afternoon, was only 10 percent contained as of Sunday morning, according to the U.S. Forest Service. So far, it has destroyed 17 homes and threatens more than a thousand more.
