What If Government Went Away Tomorrow?

in #voluntaryism3 years ago

Imagine you woke up this Monday morning and governments everywhere had simply dissappeared.

My voluntaryist and anarchist friends would rejoice and dance in the streets, probably because they understand democide more than most. Many of them also don't understand the significant benefits to society that hierarchy brings. As Thomas Sowell says, there are no solutions, only tradeoffs. So, if the violent hierarchy was gone today, what would we do next?

How would humanity build a new society? How would they find consensus and coordinate to administer shared resources? Maybe they'd use something like this: http://bit.ly/fiogroups-deck

This is just a prototype to illustrate an idea. It's an idea that may end up being more disruptive than blockchain just as bitcoin is becoming more disruptive than the Internet (which is the title of a talk I gave in 2013). The idea is this:

You own yourself within community.

You own the full responsibility of our actions, decisions, intentions, unintended consequences, externalities, profits, successes, failures, and more. Only by clear signal can we all learn from our previous actions to make better decisions towards better actions in the future to create a world we all want to live in.

Using blockchains can help us find group consensus, manage group resources, have open, transparent decision making about who will administer the group and help it come to consensus. With good signal (not noise caused often by the threats of violence in most governance systems today), we can more effectively evolve.

I have very much been thinking about the same thing. I do think we still have a lot to work to do to be prepared for such a scenario, but of course these things rarely happen over night. I think the more we have these discussions, the more we will come up with ideas that will make a positive turnout more likely, than the negative ones.

One of the keys in my mind, is to have communities already started with this in mind, so that when we come to a tipping point, we alright have leaders ready to lead everyone into these communities. I've often thought we should create a simulation of the system we envision, so that we can use it to model the results of the people's choices, vs the governments choices. Then not only would we be able to work out flaws in our system without resulting in harm, but as we improve we demonstrate that people are capable of forming better systems of governance without a centralized, controlling entity. Eventually small physical communities would form using these principals, until the best version emerges, and the modem becomes replicated larger and large communities. At this point government just becomes obsolete.

Judging by what I've seen in crypto the past 4 years, your friends and others would soon recreate all the same things they claim to hate.

Elaborate. How do? They would create armies to bomb each other and invade?
