Declare War on Deception

in #wafrica6 years ago (edited)

In an ideal society there would be no need for lies. But we live in a world of deception. And whether you want to play or not, you’re in the game. The question is, do you want to win?

One of the tips to recognizing deception is once you realize that you’re being lied to, you need to decide if you should confront the liar immediately? I never advice you do. The best
approach is to note the fact in your mind and continue with the conversation, trying to extract more information. Once you confront someone who has lied to you, the tone of the conversation changes and gathering additional facts becomes difficult. Therefore, wait until you have all the evidence you want and then decide whether to confront the
person at that time or hold off to figure how you can best use this insight to your advantage.

Through the course of several series of post I would be giving you my take on some on deception and it's accompanying characteristics. I will talk about Body language, verbal tone and speech, consistency and contradiction of account, reaction to accusations and general indications of deceit.

To start off let's talk body language, most probably the first betrayal of a deceit is your body, although most harden offenders have train their mind and willed their bodies into accept their deceit as fact (the likes of sociopaths and psychopaths), generally the body portrays some characteristics when you are dishonest and the ability to pick up on this most often times can give you a pretty good idea of the truthfulness of a narrative. Some pointer to look out for include;

Tip 1
The person will make little or no eye contact. A person who is lying to you will do everything to avoid making eye contact with you. This reminds of that old saying that "the eyes are the windows to the soul" it is my believe that the soul in its purest of forms is honest and as such can't bear the act of willful deceitful to its kindred (tacky I know!) but another school of thought believe that it's a bid to avoid show of guilt from your deceit.

Tip 2
Physical expression will be limited, with few arm and hand movements. What arm and hand movements are present will seem stiff, and mechanical. Hands, arm and legs pull in toward
the body; the individual takes up less space.

Tip 3
His/her hand(s) may go up to their face, neck or throat, especially to the mouth. But contact with his/her body is limited to these areas. The are also unlikely to touch their chest with an open hand gesture (cause research show that the most used gesture in truthful encounters are open palm gesticulations) He may also touch the nose or scratch behind the ear. If he is trying to appear casual and relaxed about his answer, he may shrug a little

Now this markers may not be conclusive enough to fully determine the truthfulness of a narrative on its own, but they give a general feel of the truth. I have had people say "I just had a feeling he was lying" it's mainly because subconsciously your eyes picks up on this markers, processes them in your subconscious and just provides you with a feeling, a mastery of this would see you look through an exchange and immediately know who is truthful or not.

Like I said earlier I would be talking more about this late on so follow and support this post it's most appropriated. I am @kboss hope you enjoyed reading just as much as I enjoyed writing.
Thanks and catch you later
