Hartland Salvage ๐Ÿ”ธ Part 2 ๐Ÿ”ธ Locked and Latched

in #walkwithme โ€ข 6 years ago

On a recent visit to Hartland Salvage in Harleysville, Pennsylvania I had fun checking out many of the old doors, windows, shutters, and many other architectural items that they have salvaged.

Hartland Salvage is a small family-owned and family-run business that is doing their part in trying to preserve and market many architectural items that might otherwise be relegated to a landfill, never to be seen again.

In this post, I feature close-ups of various door knobs, locks, and latches.

We're talking beaucoup craquelure, crust, rust, peeling, and patina!

Great shots of those preserved items. Thank you.

Beautiful pics and I got fascinated by the idea of preserving those which otherwise would had buried under soil as garbage.

Destroyer of worlds

There is nothing more familiar to us than time, and at the same time nothing more unknown than time. We all know that time exists, that it surrounds us and that it constantly passes, but it is obvious that time is essentially a mystery to most people.
Nothing has as much impact on our daily activities as time, although surprisingly we think very little about it. Nevertheless, our existence is always entirely dependent on time. Time pushes us, shapes us and escapes us, and eventually time destroys us. It continuously drives us forward and forces us to obey, leaving us no chance of stopping it, changing it, or even simply influencing it.
We have learned how to count and measure time, divide, save or waste it. However, we are so absorbed by it that we do not have time to think about the definition and purpose of this pervasive and Almighty time. We do not know what time is and what it is for. We usually accept his presence without asking ourselves why we are limiting ourselves to him, what we need to learn from it, or how we can free ourselves from his clutches. We even proudly claim that this is" our time " as if it were our creation or property, without realizing that we are his servants.
Thus, asking about the nature of time is not just a superficial or theoretical question intended for scientists or philosophers who are not from this world. Rather, this question leads us directly to the very essence of our lives. It is the question of" to be or not to be", the question of life and death, the question of the origin and purpose of the manifested world and our existence in it.
We must understand the shimmering, temporal nature of things created within time, including our bodies and our thoughts, feelings, desires, activities, and achievements. This understanding is not intended to plunge us into the ocean of ignorant regrets or to ignite a passionate thirst for action, but to open our eyes to the magnitude of timelessness, that is, eternity.
Eternity is not an infinite expansion of material time. Rather, it is transcendental to material time and is the final destination of man. In this sense, every sincere discussion of time will ultimately lead us to religion and any attempt to understand the phenomenon of time separately from God is doomed to failure.

She sells sea shells on the sea shore. Think about it. ;)

Interesting shots, I bet some of them would look good in black & White too!

Don't make stuff like that any more . Those latches and door knobs are worth restoring.

Excellent camera shots and great photography
100% like and resteem

Love the picture of the hall of doors! What if your life was like that? You could walk down a hallway and see what doors there were. You could pick which doors you wanted to go through, literally!

Well most of those pics are old and creaked and cracked except for the one pic in the middle which looks like a shiny new bowling ball.

Interesting stuff.

love the layers of paint on this one !

Thanks for sharing!

@cognoscere Such a great article & nice photography

the doorknobs shots looks elegant and very great in quality terms wow

Some very pretty door bits there. May they replace all modern stuff.

Those are some nice photographs by the way !While as it seems Nice collections of many architectural items !

I love these types of places. There is SO much to look at. And take great photos of, like these. Great works. I really like the peel-y paint and close-up doorknobs.
It's so great they help to re-use all of these things. We have a couple of places up north that sell the older stuff. And some of it is REAL expensive. From the huge, old houses...probably for people to fix up THEIR old, huge mansions. Only way to get some of these things anymore. Certainly can't afford to make them. Looks like a lot of fun to poke about and take pictures. Thanks.

I wonder who the Olsons were? I think that was a mailbox in the last photo?

I love old doors and cracked old paint (I know, lead is dangerous). And all things rust. I would have had a field day there. I can think of so many things to do with old doors.

Did you purchase anything?

I really like old latches. There are so many different kinds. It seems like, back in the day, people just kept making different styles of things, searching for that better mousetrap. I'm a big fan of construction material recycling.

There's a great one in my town, "Bring Recycling", that moves so much stuff. They have crews that contract to demolish structures and bring the material to their big operation. They were a lot cheaper when they were small and essentially in a mud puddle by the river. But now they have gone upscale - they sell more, in nicer digs, but at higher prices. I have a lot of their stuff, from the old place, lol.

beautiful post

nice and beautiful caption you are doing good thank you I upvote and resteem your post
