Lily's Cottage end of summer garden - WalkWithMe by @lyndsaybowes

in #walkwithme6 years ago

So we've had a really harsh summer, scorching hot and humid, but the plants still flourish.
I read a very sad story last night here on steemit, made more sad by the fact that it was a true story! Found walking through my garden here at Lily's Cottage quite a balm to the soul.

Tamarillo starting to bear some of that delicious fruit, will become an orangy red when ripe - also known as a tree tomato, but tastes like a passion fruit and has tiny edible pips.
This plant is native to Central and South America although it's hardly found there today, apparently is listed among the lost food of the Incas.

Friend how are you, beautiful plants and those with beautiful flowers, you have a beautiful garden nothing like breathing air with the smell of flowers, tell me how is the grandmother?

Hi @jennimorillo, we're all well here, just very hot so can't wait for winter, Durban winters are wonderful, sunny days and cool evenings, seldom unbearably cold here! Those flowers smell so lovely in the evening especially:)

This is where I live, heat of day, cold at night, but I do not have a garden like yours.

Beautiful pics! I recognize many of your plants from the time we lived in Florida. Most of them don't grow here in Canada, although I do grow lavender and there are hardy hibiscus that survive our winters. I love your planters! 💕

Thanks @anise, nice seeing you here :) Those planters do add a fun touch to the garden!

Your baking seems to be great along with your green thumb for work on the outside as well, real nice photos of some great looking plants.

Thanks mr Papper, I can't take credit for it all, it's a real team effort here but I do enjoy getting my hands into the soil, no gloves and no painted nails for this woman ;) I love plants that have a pretty flower or nice foliage. Glad you enjoyed my garden :)

I love tree ferns. I always have. Hmm. Wonder why I don't have any in my garden at the moment. Will have to rectify it.

Another favorite of mine is Clivia Plants, which I grow from seed. Do you have any in your garden?

Hi @glugster, nice meeting a fellow South African, I love Clivia, don't know why I have none in my garden ;)

Very beautiful photography really impressed me.Capturing nature in all its glory of own creativity.Your creative perspectives really impressed me. Because without creative perspectives it is not possible to capture this types of glamorous photography.

Thanks @jareen61, appreciate your comments, nice meeting you :)

Beautiful @lizelle! I have some of these in my garden, e.g. Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow, Hibiscus, Bougainvillea, Crotons. I also have magnificent Azalea bushes which bloom in August/September. We are very fortunate here in KZN!

We are indeed! I battle a bit with Azaleas, they grow beautifully higher up, where in KZN are you @leighleigh? We should arrange a KZN steemit meetup, there are a couple of us here that I know of!

@lizelle I'm down south in Leisure Bay, Port Edward area. It would be fantastic to have a steemit meetup, there are more people right here in Port Edward on steemit that I haven't met yet. I found a pic of one of my azalea bushes :)
Azalea bush.jpg

Of course I remember now! Your azalea looks amazing, you could do a walkwithme through your garden or those beautiful sandy beaches of Leisure Bay, love that area. We used to go camping at TO Strand but these days stay at the Glenmore Sands when we find time, my family are all keen anglers, I'm a spectator, just clean and cook the fish :) Cute little girl!

We live very close to TO Strand. Next time you plan a trip to Glenmore Sands let me know and we can meet up. I must confess this photo is about 6 years old, the little girl was in my class at school and now lives in Hartebeespoort. :)

Will do that for sure, @giantbear (#steemiteducation) is also down your way. Hope to get away in May/ June.

Yes I've followed @giantbear and she lives right here in Port Edward! Would love to meet her too!

Beautiful @lizelle. I love your garden

Thank you @artywink, appreciate you stopping by :)

The garden looks fantastic! Unfortunately @jusipassetti and I aren't the green finger type :) Perhaps we'll spend more time on things like those as the kids grow older.

Thanks @therneau, gardening is the most rewarding hobby, maybe when you get to your autumn years like me, but I even enjoyed it in my younger days :)

Agreed, we really aren't gardeners hahaha. The garden looks lovely @lizelle and I just love how green and pretty everything looks. Our garden at the moment is just one big sand pit, not even worth sorting anything out until we get some much needed rain.

Hey @jusipassetti, can imagine now with the drought, but consider taking up gardening when you get some good rains, it's the most rewarding hobby, best relaxation therapy ever:)

I never knew those were called Ixora! When I was a kid, we used to thread the little flowers together to make flower rings. If we were lucky and didn't break the flowers we could even make a necklace

Thanks for stopping by @livinguktaiwan, I also did not know the name until a friend who knows her plants visited recently and said how beautiful my Ixora is, so we learn something new every day. Those must have been pretty jewelry, nice memories hey :):)
