This is my entry for #wednesdaywalk hosted by @tattoodjay, This is a continuation of my walk around the old Chinese community called Talad Noi (Small Market) which is right next to Chinatown in Bangkok. The walk started out of my curiosity to explore this small area of Chinese settlement which sits along the Chao Phraya River. This long walked turned out to be very interesting and educational for me. Unexpectedly, I walked along the narrow lane to find myself in front of Baan Rim Naam (House by the Water) which was where Steemfest4 had their evening reception and funny dances. I did see some photos and blogs of people attending the party! It seemed that funny pink light made the hidden artistic sides breaking free. But I did not see any photos of @gamer00 and @daabi2006 dancing at the party, only very blurred photos of lots of smiling faces with plenty of food. I think this location for Steemfest4 party was just perfect for getting the feel of old lifestyle in Bangkok and river vibes.
I turned up there just before the sunset so I had a chance to look around this bohemian restaurant by the river. How nice it would be to spend a quiet afternoon here while the whole place is empty! The best way to reach this place is to head for the River City shopping complex by the river either by a taxi, tuk-tuk, or the express boat from Sathorn Pier to get off at Si Phraya Pier or River City Pier.
From the pier, you just walk towards the road ahead, River City is on your right. This road leads towards a tightly knitted Chinese community of Talad Noi where many old houses and ancient Chinese shrine by the river front.
The architecture of some contemporary townhouses look rather nice and unique reflecting the artistic character of the project developers for not trying to cut costs too much. Sometimes corruptions among contractors seem to turn average townhouses into sad looking boxes.
The narrow alley on the right side of this road leads to rows of old shophouses and the old Chinese shrine. This old community has become tourists’ attraction as it has turned into artistic place for lively wall paintings and graffiti. Young teenagers flock here during the weekends for photography and selfies. Some even went into old warehouses full of spare-parts to have their photos taken on top of piles of greasy metallic parts. I was afraid they might slip on those piles because of their nice shoes and long vintage dresses! There seems to be a fad for vintage look at the moment. I wonder why!
วันนี้เรามาเล่าเรื่องต่อเนื่องจากครั้งก่อน ที่เราไปเดินตามหาบ้านจีนเก่าแก่ที่สุดในกรุงเทพฯ นอกจากเราจะเจอบ้านคหบดีโบราณแล้ว เราเดินต่อไปเรื่อยจนเจอ ร้านอาหารกึ่งบาร์ที่ขื่อ บ้านริมน้ำ ที่ซึ่งฝรั่งมาจัดงานพบปะกันที่กรุงเทพฯเมื่อปีที่แล้ว เราไปถึงก่อนพระอาทิตย์ตก เราจึงมีเวลาถ่ายรูปก่อนที่จะมืด และยังได้ได้ไปเดินเล่นต่ออีกด้วย วิธีที่ดีที่สุดในการเดินทางมาที่นี่ คือมาด้วยแท็กซี่มาลงที่ริเวอร์ซิตี้ หรือมาทางเรือด่วน โดยมาจากท่าสะพานสาธรมาลงที่ท่าสี่พระยา แล้วเดินมาหน้าริเวอร์ซิตี้ เราต้อวเดินตามถนนนี้ไปอีกสิบนาที จนถนนถึงซอยตันแบะมีป้ายบอกทางไปศาลเจ้าจีนทางซ้ายมือ เราจึงเดินตามตรอกเล็กๆแคบๆ เดินไปจนสัดทางจะเจอศาลเจ้าจีนติดแม่นํ้าเลย
เราเลี้ยวซ้ายเดินไปตามตรอกศาลเจ้าโรงเกือก ที่นี่กลายเป็นแหล่งท่องเที่ยวทางวัฒนธรรม มีภาพเจียนผฝาผนังสีสดใสมากมาย และมีร้านขายอะไหล่ที่คนมาถ่ายรูปแบบวินเทจหลายคน บางบ้านก็เปลี่ยยเป็นร้านกาแฟอยู่ชั้นสอง เราเจอศาลเจ้าเก่ากว่าร้อยปี และบ้านโซ่งเฮงไถ่ วันที่ไปเดินแทบไม่เจอชาวต่างชาติเลย มีแต่คนไทยไปถ่ายรูปกันไม่กี่คน เราเดินต่อไปอีกแล้วเลี้ยวตามถนนจนไปเจอ บ้านริมน้ำที่สตีมเฟส4เคยมาจัดงานเมื่อปีก่อน เราก็เก็บภาพไว้ดูเล่น เขาเลือกที่จัดปาร์ตี้ได้ดีมาก ทำให้ได้บรรยากาศริมน้ำและดูพระอาทิตย์ตกด้วย
When you see this cat, it means you are very near your destination. The kind gate keeper closed his eyes so I did not have to pay my fees for entering his kingdom.
I stayed only a few minutes there as I still had another destination to find before the sky was dark. I am still waiting to see photos taken @gamer00 and @daabi2006 of the meetup and sightseeing in Bangkok last year. Hope they’ll be back again as they still haven’t been to Koh Chang like some lucky people had a nice time there.
